Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • @f3624cd720=nightstalker:

Looks like it would have enough space for a large FMIC 8)

:) Yep just making previsions for turbo time
although it wont be a full length FMIC as I
dont want to cover up the whole length of the radiator!
but atleast I'll be able to get full cooling to a taller FMIC.

  • Should look sweet, did you see Valley's bumper http://www.uk-mx3.com//forum/viewtopic.php?t=9&start=30? It really changes the front end look, was part tempted myself! I just smoothed in the lip instead and got rid of the middle lumpy bit.

  • @540b9ba9ec=Ryan:

Bumper should look awesome! Just spotted this one in Japan:

    http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/98042728

Looks pretty similar. Shipping would be expensive though I'd say.

That MX3 looks fucking evil.. I want it.

Anyone ID the rims? and where that top spoiler thingy can be gotten from.

No I hadnt see that, thanks. probably smooth out that
lumpy bit too while Im at it.

Well in true dirtyfox styley theres now a bumper
being stored and worked on in the kitchen

  • Ok so the battle lines have been drawn,
but I got to get one of them oscillating
cutters or a bigger dremel with cutting
power before I attempt to remove some
    bumper.

  • Just a thought but, if you are cutting out that much of the bumper, I think you may possibly expose the carrier that sits beneath it, part metal/polystyrene, have you made plans to cut that back too??

  • we talking about that big black bar that goes all the way across?
I assume we are :D Yes im going to remove that from the
back of the bumper before I cut the it.
The new grille mesh going in there should cover it back up again
I hope and leave it intact.

  • Productive day today!
decided to go for it with the hard disc cutter,
    Little test patch!

    Cutting well inside the line,

    then tidy up after
with flat side of the disc cutter and debur/countersink
in a drill to tidy corners.

little wire mesh cage for fibreglass:

    1st layer of fibreglass

  • nice work i think i will be watching this thread good work

  • cheers Jay, another day spent on the bumper.
First of had to reshape the sides and cut the bottom
corners out, did this with a drill and hand milled em out.
Then smoothed out with emery cloth.

after the second layer of FB I inserted more mesh wire
to bring the shape out more.

cut out the splitter joiner and glassed it back together then whacked
some filler on the top hole, more filling and sanding tommorow, not my favourite job!
but im liking the way this is turnin out :D

  • nice big intercooler behind there will look sweet!!.
can wait to see it finished and fitted.

  • Intercoolers going to be black Garfy so wont show
too much without looking really hard behind this :D

me neither, need to think about getting it sprayed soon!

  • You had any quotes for painting the bumper? Post it to me, I'll paint it for you  Please NO rattle cans

  • coming on nicely i see you used the smooth splitter idea lol keep up the good work

  • @3033e43655=mx3gulf:

Yes Ive just taken it round to my local bodyshop (literally round the corner) and He said they will finish off the filler for me, smooth in the
lip properly, fully prep and paint for 120 cash, wich I think is pretty good really. Tbh I wouldnt want any chance of it getting damaged in transit

He only lives on the island sam, just get a lift to gunwarf and take ya bumper on the ferry and meet him there

  • Yes know mate, theyve offered to finish
off my filling for me, wich is the job i most hate!
plus he said even if i did get it upto a decent standard
he would want to finish it properley anywayz,
dunno see what Gulfy says ?

Fog light aperture blanking plugs made now
out of some soffet board I had lying around :D
    100mm template made eliptical.

  • Will do it cheaper than that, Are you just taking the bumper to them and they are painting red for you? You fitting it up? Personally I'd dry fit it first, still think that the carrier is gonna be possibly showing, but could be wrong, if its gonna be red again, depending on your turnaround, I will do it for £70 members rates

  • Yes im taking it to them, no they are finishing off
my bad filling job(top hole and splitter, wich just glassed together at the minute) then fully stripping it back and painting it red and Im fitting it
back on once im able to crawl around on the floor again
(2 weeks) cheers for the offer its competitive once I factor
in travel costs, but the body shop is just too conveniant

Yes your right the carrier does show alot (nearly all of it infact!) but it will be covered back up again by the grill mesh on the front.

  • ok mate no problem, that stretch of water is a pain in the arse sometimes, make sure you get a decent colour match off your car, either front wing not the bumper, red can be a pain in the arse, could be a few variants, look forward to seeing it finished
