Is she one of the 600 for whom the contraceptive implant didn't work then?

  • /slap

  • Thanks to all for the help given.
I had a go at repairing the broken aerial. Rather than remove the instrument cluster to free the aerial cable (it wouldn't pull through behind the dashboard) I cut the cable leaving 3 inches or so protruding above the roof. The broken aerial rod came out fairly easily from the mounting. I found approx. 40cm of 3.15mm brass rod amongst my bits and bobs and using a rat tail file I eased out the hole through the mounting which then allowed the rod to slide (fairly tight) through. I then soldered a small brass nut (I filed off the corners to smarten it up) on each end to stop it pulling through. All I need to do now is to join the 2 cable ends and put the aerial back. Job done….

  • so your going to have a bling brass aerial?

  • Bling it is!!!!! After all the faffing around I hope it works ok…..

I need to check the car against the MOT check list eg checking the caliper pistons are free etc then it's in for the MOT.

One thing I did notice when I collected the car is the exhaust seems a bit loud ; not puffing due to leak but definitely throaty.
I'm sure the V6 generates a generous grunt but is this normal compared to an average saloon car? eg I also run a Ford Focus which seems quiet by comparison.

  • when you go for it they can get throaty even with the standard exhaust

  • Focus sounds like a mouse to the V6 lion.

  • mine has a standard exhaust on it and yes it is more grunty than your average car, take a pic, you might have an aftermarket exhaust, in which case, Ill gladly buy it off you.

  • Hi,
The MX-3 passed its MOT today. No real advisories but the rear pads are a bit low and the handbrake could be stronger so I'll have a go at these next.

I questioned the exhaust noise with the MOT guy and we looked underneath with the car on the ramp (I wish I had one of these..) and found the silencer is a stainless steel sports type.

I might look for a standard silencer (anybody got a used one they don't want I don't want to spend a lot on it) and then compare the noise with my current roar.

If anybody is in the Woking area let me know ; maybe we can compare cars and have a chinwag.

  • Ill swap you my standard one for your sports one. ill pay postage both ways

  • Hi Jesta
Thanks for the offer. I'm not sure which way I want to jump yet.

I would rather get a used but reasonable condition standard silencer and compare the exhaust noise and then decide whether to keep the sports one or sell it.

Barry, to make sure put a pic of your tailpipe on the site so we can see if it really is just a standard rear box, because it could be a full system. If it is standard and the middle is stainless then I would offer…

    JESTA
I would offer to buy barry a brand new bosal (standard) one and give his address as the delivery address as they are around £40 with P&P then just pay the £12 for the stainless one to be collected after his new one is fitted.
That way barry only pays for fitting for his new exhaust and you get the stainless center for £50
    That way everyones a winner.

But thats just me but I think thats fair as barry would have to pack it in bubble wrap etc for posting and carry it home in his car.

  • Yeah thats fine with me, was thinking shortly after that Id like to keep my standard one for incase I have problems at the MOT or I find the stainless one to be too loud, so yeah, what you said was what I was gonna reply with just before I read these new responses. Its all upto you barry, though a pic would be a big help if your interested in this revised offer. Cheers

  • I felt like i was on dickinsons real deal then 8)

  • do you look like youve been tango'ed aswell then?

  • Sorry for the delay. I've had no time to take a photo of the silencer but will get under (weather permitting) this weekend and post here. (can you advise how to upload a photo on this site?)
It's definitely too loud for me and I'm taking a lot of stick from she who must be obeyed….

Out of interest, I keep trying to change up from 5th gear based on driving other cars. In top gear it's 3000 revs at 60mph ie 1000rpm per 20mph.
Is this normal? I'm used to higher gear ratios......
    Thanks

  • youll need to host it on photobucket or something similar, if you want then you can email it to me and ill host it for you if you dont already have an account.

Yep thats the normal rev/speed combo, mine is the same, when you work it out, 7000rpm is the max before redline, and the top speed is 135mph ish, so at the rate of 1000 = 20mph you get 130mph at 7000rpm, so its exactly right, I myself only got the car in october and thought the exact same, thought the clutch or something might be going but nope its just how theyre designed, but then its a small cc sports car, dont think theres many 12-19year old or even newer cars that will do 0-60 in 8.4seconds running on a 1.8 engine, the VW golf 1.8 Turbo GTI 3door does it in 8.2 seconds, and thats a smaller, lighter car thats got 150bhp which is 10% more than what we have aswell as being turbo.

more revs and lower top speed is the trade off for faster acceleration, guys in the motorbike scene are always switching front and rear sprockets to give higher top speed or better accel, have a look at some of the stunt riders bikes, HUGE rear sprockets, but the bike wont go faster than about 40mph in 6th gear
