-eunos's- MX-3

  • This is the initial stages of project RICER…

    My cluster for engine management…

    Initially I had tinted tail-lights. but the fuzz quickly quelled the fad by almost slapping me a defect sticker… the wing started off being massive! (yes it actually does work, smooths off the ride)

    I hate it when racing seats say universal for japanese makes.. yet they don't f**king fit…

    more images to come guys.. ;-)

  • Welcome! :D Is that a glass sunroof?

    @070c17b9f4=-eunos-:

    I can't imagine the wing doing anything, they are placed to create more downforce at the back of a car & if placed wrongly it'll just be adding drag to the car, any sorta wing shouldn't be needed unless you are going waaaaaaaay too fast. :D

    Worse than drag, it will push the back end down and the front driving wheels will have less traction for fast corners meaning you will have to take them slower to avoid understeer.

  • Personal view, but what the hell have you done to it?…that poor wraparound spoiler.

  • guys guys… lol steady on, I have a second "wrap around" spoiler (the original) sitting in my shed... you'd be surprised....! it actually does smooth off the ride! i used to have little vibrations in the back end at 60mph, but with the new wing it really has smoothed it off...! handling too, it hasn't lightened it at all... cos i've angled it for minor downforce (I just wanted the look... (I also had the wing modified shorter then the previous pics...) dropped it about 2.5"

    Should be no vibrations at the rear end though, and the "ride" would be most affected by tire choice, whether your shocks are knackered etc., not by a wing that might provide a bit of downforce at speed, which I'd be quite skeptical about, I'd say it's just drag. Just my personal opinion, though. :P

  • im not trying to be harsh but cars that look like that give us a bad name… its all up to ur personal taste and i understand that... but cmon JDM drift and a massive spoiler on a FWD car=not cool. the wraparound spoiler is nice enough and you have a white mx3 which is just as cool, plus did i see stuck on air scoops?? duude wtf !

    just my opinion

  • Well… he did call it PROJECT RICER :lol:

    The drift sticker makes me cringe a little, and the spoiler on the wraparound just isn't right. I think that spoiler would be most passable on the simple hatch garnish piece. When it's sitting on a wraparound it just looks a bit messy. But hey, if you're having fun that's all that matter right? :|

    :lol:

    **Drag will provide rear-end stability (well… can rather than will) - 99% of the point of a spoiler is to cause drag and provide higher-speed stability on the otherwise unloaded rear of an FWD car. Remove a stock V6's spoiler and replace with a hatch garnish, then go see how scary it is at 135mph by comparison.

    But you're quite right - you don't need a BGW* on a FWD road car, especially if it has an existing spoiler and in any case there shouldn't be any vibrations to "smooth" out unless there's something else wrong with the car.

    Probably caused by all that drifting.

    Big Gay Wing*

  • lol..drifting

  • Certainly not my cup of tea, but looks like lots of progress is being made!
    I preferred the lights tinited, without the white vinyl on top.

    All I'm gonna say is: Stay away from E-bay.

  • Steady on guys… Right, I'll clear up a few points..:

    Here in Aus you can't get anything other then the wrap-around spoiler on the (30x's)

    @7ba0127151:

    … cars that look like that give us a bad name... but cmon JDM drift and a massive spoiler on a FWD car=not cool. ... plus did i see stuck on air scoops?? duude wtf !

    From the start I wanted a RICER! but I couldn't afford a Supra or Skyline… so I got this 30x... I only wanted to turn heads... I don't race, I don't drift... Just wanted a unique car that I could enjoy and that looked the part...

    I bought that black wrap-around second-hand, so I STILL have the ORIGINAL WHITE ONE IN THE SHED!

    I understand the purists on the forums thinking that I am destroying a nice car... but FYI all the modifications I have installed can all be removed! not much can be said for alotta the mods that I've seen on the forums... what if you go to sell the car and the potential buyer would have bought it if it looked stock (like most sales over here in AUS)

    I understand that most of the mods are only for looks... yes the bonnet vents are stick on... I did make the side vents/repeaters... So what.?! modifing cars is totally up to the individual and I would have thought that most of you guys criticizing my project would understand that... I know it can be constructive sometimes, but just hold off on the harsh comments.. (Doesn't it state that in the posting rules???) An d yes I did like the Tinted lights too.. but the boys in blue didn't... And I gotta remove the vinal too cos they did me again... Altezza's, here we come... anyone had problems with the E-bay altezza's from the US?

  • hmmmm…. there is a very select few nice examples on there... lol but i'm more the track style come street... lol

    what I meant by vibrations was the back end was a little light at high speeds… and I think the hatch seal has worn a bit... so thats what the vibrations were... I know, could be the Placebo effect...? hmmmm...

  • @-eunos-:

    FYI all the modifications I have installed can all be removed!

    i would go ahead and do that, i like the wheels though

  • Ease up guys give the fella a break. :?

    …............

  • @6ce3fa5a38=-eunos-:

    I only wanted to turn heads…

    **Thing is, it works both ways. If you "turn heads", you're going to get people turning heads to say "Oooooh" and others turning heads to say "Urrrrrrgh!".

    If you're after attention, you have to accept that you're going to get bad and good attention.**

    @6ce3fa5a38=-eunos-:

    just hold off on the harsh comments.. (Doesn't it state that in the posting rules???)

    So long as no-one's calling you a twatsponge for doing it and just sticking with review of the modifications, I don't think the comments are harsh or against the rules.

    @6ce3fa5a38=jay1987:

    you will love this site….. http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1

    I know I do :wink:

    **Anything that spoils airflow - a spoiler - will reduce rear-lift at speed (though my MX-3 is fine at an indicated 141mph all day long - until it runs out of fuel). It introduces instability in the passing air, generating rapidly-changing flow patterns in the air which gives lateral stability (side-to-side). You don't need downforce - a wing - to do the job, though it will.

    Adding downforce does a few additional things, however. It increases drag and frontal area and weight, the last of which increases with increasing speed (spoilers just increase drag, generally speaking). The net result is that for every point on the speedo you need more power to get there and maintain it than I do in the same car - and this also means you need more fuel. Also, by adding weight (varying with speed) to the rear only, you change the weight distribution at speed and, since we drive FWD cars, you're taking available force away from both your drive wheels and control surfaces - and adding it to what are in effect just bogey wheels. You reduce available grip (which again, in extreme circumstances, increases the power you'll need to do the same job I can do with less). On a motorway this isn't massively concerning, though if you're required to perform an emergency manouevre it might become a factor. The last thing the wing does is close your boot/trunk a bit harder.

    In our cases:
    Spoiler - Disturbs airflow -> Lateral stability
    Wing - Disturbs airflow + adds downforce -> Lateral stability and decreased fuel economy, decreased performance, decreased emergency response ability…

    Now, in the spirit of helpfulness, if you want to keep the wing, priority one will be a splitter. A splitter is a wing for the front but it'll help counteract the potential control issues I mention above by adding downforce to the front of the car to complement the wing and balance everything out. Splitters can be done cheaply - some 18mm plywood cut to fit the underside of your front bumper - and still be effective.**

  • Look I get that he wants it to be Individual and there's alot of love out there for those that do it right. One of the reasons I love the mx3 is the way ot looks, the lines are smooth and it turns heads for the right reasons. These cars are getting rarer and by fitting things that take away from what is an already great looking car should be open to criticism. IMO. And that's usually wrong :roll:

  • Altezza will be a nice improvement. I'd recommend the black by far. It really updates the rear end.

    Fair play for taking all the crit eunos. The drift sticker is silly though dude :P

    You should be able to get the hatch garnish, you get jap imports right? It'd look way better with your spoiler.
