Decat Pipes

  • @2442e311d9=Welly:

Isit a Tig welder? if it is a might have a job for you would have serious problems with a mig doing it

Well, I'm no welder, but isn't TIG more for Stainless stuff?
All I've been told thus far is it's possible and I need to gauge interest before he starts to look into it and buy materials.

As for gains, I have no proof, but most decats will release up to 15% power.

Guess it depends on the car…

  • the 1.8 and 1.6 cats are different the a different thength and the flanges are at a different angle to the middle pipe

Tig welding is with a stick

    you can mig stainless

  • I mig welded a stainless exhaust Friday at work its fine just make sure your joins are clean, and use a decent amp welder.

  • i am interested, let us know when find out costs.etc….

  • Ok cool.

Can we start a list please?
I'm only gonna have a template for the V6, unless someone can help me with the 1.6?

Gonna need at least 5 names to make it worth while methinks!

    • Nexussteve - V6

  • any chance of a full straight thru center pipe for the V6 as these are unavailable to buy anywhere except america

  • American order finishes in 2 days. If you can find it there, I can ship it back.

    I'll ask!

  • I am definitely interested in the de-cat, and maybe anything else to make my car more awesome! :p

  • what would you need as a template? don't suppose a pic would do it? i asume that it would not be mot freindly? want one though if it can be done.

  • MOT wise it does not matter an emission test will be carried out according to the engine age. Most cars that have de-CAT pipes fitted pass CAT emissions test, just make sure the car is very warm before the test is carried out.

  • You can also put in additives that lower your emissions for a day! ^^

  • Ok, so to sum up, these are the numbers thus far:

    -Nexussteve
    -Ash
    -DJMarcoPolo (straight through middle section)
    -Mattuhh

Will hopefully be getting a rough quote this week, so let me know if anyone else is interested so it makes it worth his while!

  • **For reference, here's the MX-3 stock downpipe next to the stainless KL version:

The branches are longer on the MX-3 version simply because the manifolds are shorter. When mated to the correct fanimolds, this section is the same length. You'll note that the cat-side section is markedly longer, however…

From this image it looks like approximately 190mm longer - so you'll either need a 190mm shorter cat, or a 190mm longer mid/back section if you're going decat. I can measure more precisely later when it's not windier than God's arse outside.**

  • any news on them decats yet??

  • Would love to de-cat mine.

  • I have to have the 3 back off the road by end of next week, so once I've swapped the cars over, I can then get to work taking the exhaust off!

Fingers crossed, I should have more info for you by end of month! :)

    Sorry for the wait guys!

  • I had a decat on my 1.8 and it didn't make any speed gains, the MX-3 seems to have a good flowing CAT anyway. But it did make it sound a bit beefier but I had a powerflow cat back not standard.

I also ran a CAT that had the innards knocked and it made no speed gains either, I was on stock exhaust then which sounds crap anyway so it didn't really make it sound any good either.

I fitted the MX-6 headers, now they made a big difference to the sound and the response. But I did have to put sound deadening in the boot, and in the end I'm having to change my backbox as now its annoyingly loud.

Here is a pic of the DECAT I use with the MX-6 Headers/downpipe:

Notice that its offset not straight!

  • any word on these yet?
