Telling between OBD1 and 2

  • Hey guys, i know it is possible to tell the type of ECU from the plugs in the back but i don't have access to my car at the moment.

I was wondering of there was any other way to tell. I had my father read out all the numbers on the label on the top if that helps.

Also my engine is sounding pretty fucked at the moment (1.8 v6) so i was thinking about putting in the 2.5 (If i have OBD1 that is).

Was thinking about just putting in the KLDE version to save cash. Does this engine just come from a Ford Probe (if so what years) or MX-6(again, years?).

Any help on any of this would be very much appreciated.

  • Hmm really that's the best way to tell, take off the wee plastic trim guard and count the plugs like in the HOW TO. Get your dad to send a photo. You know you can put a 2.5 in an OBDII car anyway, the way to make it work is to use your k8 sensors and a probe/mx6 kl02 VAF and a adjustable FPR. This strangely works well. Fine tuning could be acheived later down with megasquirt or another piggyback.

The 2.5 L (2497 cc) KL family uses an 84.5 mm bore and 74.2 mm stroke. It includes the Japan-only KL-ZE, which produced 199 hp (149 kW) and 165 ft·lbf (224 Nm). Another variant, the KL-DE (also known as the KL-03 outside the USA, and fitted to 2.5 litre Ford Probes) was the worldwide version, with 164-170 hp in various applications.

Is Freedoms engine sold? I'd give him a shout just in case.

  • Cheers bud, i will hopefully get a chance to look myself this week.

Hopefully the swap is as easy as described as i could really do with my car back on the road.

The list of donor cars help too.

    Cheers again.
