Lowering kit

  • does any body know where i can get a matched set of shocks and springs around a 40mm drop? in the UK not US or europe, unlees they are a lot cheaper inc postage!!

  • I am looking for a full suspension set in the UK and I am really struggling to find anywhere that will even list anything more than springs… and its starting to annoy!!! Has anyone found a UK seller for a decent set up?

My 40mm springs are not working at all on standard shocks so at least need some new shocks for my springs. If not just that then a decent coilover set up without pulling my pants down on price. Need it lower for the shows and cant seem to find any!

  • i have found shocks on there own or springs on there own never as a kit. Koni red shocks are availible but im not sure if they are shorter than the standard ones or not.

  • When I dropped my Xedos, I ended up using Pi springs with a new set of stock dampers, which worked really well. To clarify, the dampers, shocks, call 'em what you will, aren't shorter - it's the springs that are shorter. I wrote a guide on doing the job here:

    http://www.xedos6.co.uk/lowering.html

most of which will apply to an mx-3 as well, the major difference being that the Xedos has a rear strut brace to deal with, the mx-3 doesn't. Which is nice.

  • i dont really want to spend £1000 on my suspension that seems too expensive, i found KYB shocks on www.fordprobestore.co.uk but they still come in at £250 a pair, i.e front + rears £500. then still need springs on top another £100+

its quite expensive, my fiesta suspension cost £150 for 4 shocks and spring -35mm. That kit came with shorter shocks than standard, cos otherwise the standard shock would be trying to push up on a shorter spring which would surely wear the shock out quicker. thats what i thought any way.

looks like its time to save again tho, whith the price of any of the kits!!!

  • this is my problem, I have had 40 mm lowering springs on for ages and the back end looks the same height now as the shocks are fucked. Does anyone know where to get a full set?? 500 quid for shocks alone seems a little steep you can get coilovers from the states for $1100 thats only 600 quid.

Surely someone must make a full basic spring and shock set for the car!

  • look up ground control they do adj coilovers and performance shocks for dirt cheap!

  • found these on ground control site, its in america but looks cool!!

    http://www.ground-control-store.com/products/description.php/II=31

they convert normal shocks to sort of 'coil overs' ie adjustable ride height!!!

  • best of luck with em! i know they also do sell different lenght coilovers and shocks

g-max do shocks i think cant remember but check demon tweaks.

you got a link for the yanky coillys?

i dont really want to spend £1000 on my suspension that seems too expensive

The £1,150 price was for the 'EVO III' coilovers 'with Height and damping adjustment with adjustments for both compression and rebound'

They also sell the 'EVO I coilovers that only have height adjustment, which has got to be a good bit cheaper.

But they dont have a price on the website, it just says to call them for a price.

does anyone know of a UK source for these?? not sure if they would work as well with normal shocks going that low but they seem to get a good write up from the US. not sure about importing something that heavy though.

  • i have just recieved a quote fot the escort ZX2 tokico shocks posted from the USA for $310. I have just replied asking about getting the springs and top bearings.

the ZX2s have a 22mm piston(?) whereas the mx3 is 19mm, this means getting new bearins for the fronts and drilling the mount out to 22mm. the price seems very good to me if i can get it all for less than $500 i'll be well pleased.

    link: http://wakeperformance.com/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&inc_subcat=1&keywords=zx2

  • nice one! hope the tax nazis dont hit you too hard! Though can't see it going over $500. What springs you running with?

  • i'll try to get them to put on that its a gift then no tax! :D

not sure yet on the springs, the eibach ones are expensive for the zx2, around £200 delivered i'm not sure whether i'd be able to get mx3 ones overhere and then i would save on postage. but its wether they would fit the zx2 shocks??

i have seen some 'megan' ones on ebay for $150 delivered made to fit the zx2, but they are not progressive rate springs.

  • what a gift that would be! Yea eibach make great but a bit expensive springs (my bros 323f ba handling is awesome on them). Though I like the aesthetics of a bigger drop than that. Not sure about whether the springs interchange, im sure it'll be amongst the mx-3.com quagmire somewhere!

  • after a bit more research…

The mx3 H&R springs will work well with the zx2 tokicos at a 40mm, and at £150 are cheaper as getting the eibachs from usa. Also the H&R gold plated ones will fit but at over a grand i think i'll let somebody else have them!!

the shocks will give a 1/4" - 1/2" drop on their own as they are shorter than the mx3 oem ones. so ill be looking at a 46-52mm drop depending on the length of the shocks. not bad for £300ish.

the strut bearings from ford USA are $80 each which can be ordered through the same company as i linked. I posted in the want to buy forum on mx-3.com to see if i can get somebody to send me some over for a bit cheaper!
