Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • Hi All,
Bought my first Mx-3 september '09 from ebay off a really enthusiastic owner
who looked after the car well. Has 74K on the clock, really nice clean interior
no signs of rust (yet!) and some dealer history, although it was a bit faded and pink to say the least!

7 hours of intensive T-cutting later She was back upto gleaming Red again!

The 4x4 ride height really had to go,lol so as a stop gap before I get some coilovers maybe next year I dropped her down on some -35mm Avo springs.

Next up was to find some nice rims, ok the standard ones are pretty cool, but i really fancied some 15 x 7J split five spokes, got these off ebay for a fair price, bit curbed but I put them up on my turning lathe at work
    and emeried out any marks.

They are at the powder coaters right now as we speak getting a nice new matt black coating and Im going for a red pinstripe round the rim too.
sorry bout the phone pics, will take some high res ones once they are on,
new T1R's going on them too.

After owning a Pug 205 Turbo and having friends who had Mx-3 eunos turbos, i couldnt help but think the 1.6 was a little underpowered without one, so set to work on sourcing some turbo bits, got a 323 mani of ebay (again, lol)
and currently looking at various T25's to fit, although i wont go turbo till later on next year there is no harm collecting parts :D
Only other I plan really are the V6 front splitter and maybe some nice side skirts, import size plates and a more 'buckety' drivers seat, this being my daily driver and not going all out balls to wall, just subtle and quick!

Thanks for reading, updates immanent :D

  • nice and clean mate

  • nice work mate looks good :D

  • Cheers for the good comments! :D

Rim's just back from the powder coaters in a lush matt black, I might chuck em back up on the lathe the paint the red pinstripe or buy a decal to do it.

Will get the rubber on them in the week and off to pro-tyres on the weekend
to check 4 wheel tracking & camber.

  • good choice on the rimage colour, vnice 8)

  • Thanks, Im really pleased with them on the car and it makes a hell of alot
of difference having 4 brand new tyres on there all the same make!

Some more good news is I think I have found a turbo ( TD04) with a square flange that will fit the 323 fanimold, bad news is no money to buy it due to chrimbo and just getting engaged, after the wedding in August 2010 the real modifiactions will begin :D

  • congrats on the engagement mate car is looking realy good

  • Love black rims, they look soooo cool. Especially on a red motor.

  • Cheers chaps :D

Dont think i even need bother with the red rimtape pinstripe on the wheels, looks cool just as is i think.
do need a v6 splitter though and maybe a laguna one underneath that too
atleast to make it look real low.

  • Looking good mate, I just sprayed a set of my wheels black gloss, I bought some flourescent orange rim tape to put on after and it really makes a big difference, will take a pic tomorrow and show you :D

  • That;ll be cool ta, i did spot the reflective red tape on ebay and thought it would be quite cool, and maybe some instruction on how to put on???
I assume its just on a reel and not cut to fit in sections??

  • New picture posted of wheels on my project thread…............

Easy to fit rim tape, comes in self adhesive pre bent strips, you just overlap them, you can't really see joins either.

  • Will definately be buying some rim tape then, its look awesome on your car!

Just treated myself to these JDM front spoliers also :D

  • Ok so here is quite a major part of the turbo install that I picked
up off ebay for under 20 notes!!
one busted off stud and a little crack wich I plan to have welded with
mild steel wire and I'll also drill out a retap the broken stud.

After trawling the net cross referencing various sites for hours (mx6.com, 323gtx.com) I have found the right turbo to fit this mani.
Although it should be an IHI VJ-9 Im hoping to fit a IHI RHB5 VJ-11 off a probe, wont get me to 200hp but pretty close and with a nice quick spool up time and a price of £100 from USA I cant complain, hopefully I'll win it

  • well my front skirts arrived so bolted them up this arvo, I like
but think they may even look even better body coloured?!

I like them, where did you get them from if you don't mind me asking and how much?

I think they could do with being a little more level to the ground though, they look a little odd following the shape of the bumper.

  • Thanks
    :)

Yeh been thinking exact same thing, will have to get some longer bolts or make up some spacers/brackets to level them out 8)

racing_raven shop on ebay.com $86 delivered from Hong Kong
(marked up as birthday gift, wich was cool to avoid import tax etc)

if it's not raining tommorow i will have a play :D

  • Got some longer bolts yesterday along with some 40mm spacers, all fitted up this morning!
