SYNTHETIC OR SEMI SYNTHETIC?

  • Hi everyone, new to the MX3 V6 but will say a lovely car and all that, whats the score with oil? is it best to stick with the 5w30 fully synthetic or wouold you think the good quality 10w40 semi synthetic oil is ok.
On my ZZR 1100 bike it recs full synthetic but only any good when you thrap the backside out of it! any comments would be grateful for the MX3 V6 as would hate to seize it

  • To be safe i would use 10w 40 semi synthetic oil.

  • Thanks for the help on that, much appreciated

  • get some castrol 10w 40 semi synthetic
    and some slick 50
and you will have no problems

Please do not put Slick 50 in these V6 engines!

It does nothing but clog the oil filter and reduce the oil flow. Proven fact many times over, only the Slick 50 company say the stuff works. It's very poor in any K series V6 engine. If you have already put some in, change the oil filter just to be safe.

5w/30 fully oil is the best grade for the V6 engine, although 5w/40 is ok, and 10w40 semi if you want to save a few quid. However 5w/30 fully is the best for them.

  • ive put it in evry car ive had
    made my tapets quieter
if it resticted oil flow they would get louder

    Entirely up to you mate.

I know a fair bit about the design and internals of this engine and also the make up of Slick 50 and I would never put it in my car.

I used to use it back in the 80's, but would not touch it now.

A decent 5w/30 with some HLA treatment (without solid particles to block the filter) is the best choice.

  • true enough, their false advertising went to court and they lost  PTFE doesn't work in the oil just as they claim it does… ie. it sticks in your filter not on your friction surfaces.

Does your knowledge also extend to the transmission, as i am concerned my KLZE is to strong for the K8 g/box and drive shafts. Just snapped another bloody shaft.

DuPont, the inventors of PTFE also stated that it has no function in an engine.

In the past, the other additives improved the quality of the oil. Oil these days does not need those additives and it can be detrimental to the oil itself if you add it.

    The box should be ok.

Maybe uprate the shafts to MX-6 or Probe 2.5 shafts, but that might well mean new hubs and all.

  • sounds like alot of custom fabbing? Don't remember reading of anyone doing it, anythings possible, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be easy. Would give an opening to more big brake kits though :D

Mechanic - I think there are US companies that make HP driveshafts for our cars, just the usual shipping/tax issues I guess.

That sounds cool might do a bit of research.

  • our gearboxes are g series transmissions they are bullet proof upto 300bhp ( learn to the search threads on mx-3.com :D)

one thingk to take not thought. our 3rd gear is the weakest link so watch ur shifting into 3rd ive grinded mine into gear a few times while racing legally   i messed the synchro in my 3rd gear and now u cant down shift into 3rd. it dosent bother me that much as i dont go really really hard into the corners and when u race in a straight line its the up shifts that really matter :D but since u race it would be a pita for u. but so long as u careful and dont snatch the gears the gearbox will be fine :)

as for shafts send a pm to monnegges he should be able to link you with some hp driveshafts from the states.

  • Both the 3rd gears are shot to shit on both of my g/boxes,,,…
Sorted my shaft had a spare still on the look out for more.... :P

  • i was told 15/40 would be good for a high mileage engine, do you not think so?

i'd love if it was 5/40! so what would be a really good oil then Roc? i put in Slick 50, was told great things etc etc. lying bastards!

i hear fordprobestore is rubbish

  • I've used 5w 30 full synthetic for years and it seems to do just fine
