HEI problem

did the HEI mod and now my car wont start! have resistance tested all the lines and all seem fine !
anyone had thsi problem?

did you remember to cut the strap as in 5b of this walkthrough?

we couldnt get to the actual strap couldnt work out how to dismantle the distributor without breaking it!
i did think this could be the problem but its only for the tac isnt it? i asked a mechanic when i was showing him what i was doing before hand and i rang him whilst doing it and he said it shouldnt matter as their is no power going to the old coil :|

the strap should be cut if you arn't using the old coil, as power does go to it, if i remember isn't there a screw or clip on top of rotor part? take it off and the metal shielding should come off,
have you modified the distributor cap? and added an external coil?
Im not sure but the strap may be for the power, anyhow, for the time being just leave the tacho wire to one side, as it still runs without it, and it will be less complicated
you need to make sure the module is adequately earthed, i chose to connect the earth directly to the battery negative, i did it with the screw hole that needs to be earthed along with the earthed wire, and it needs to be of the right guage wire (16 guage) i just used some of the good speaker wire in argos
if its too thin, it wont work properly, if none of the above fix the problem then it must be wired wrong :?

was wired correctly but have bought a new distributor now anyway from local scrappy!
problem was that the distributor had been badly restored by someone in the past and hey siliconed it together so we couldnt get to the old coil to take it out!
am going to try the mod on the new distributor just to make sure it works and i may keep it until the coil goes again or just sell the HEI mod to try get some money back!

haha no i mean my actual unit :D make sure i not broke it!
but its tested now and does work but have put the coil back in the new distrobuter for now see how it goes for abit before i decide what to do with the HEI :D

problem was that the whole ditribution unit was gettin too hot cos was stuck together but some plank with silicone which over time had destroyed the coil so it was failing under load!
the new distributor i got from the scrappy cost me 15 quid off a wrapped up mx looked liek ity had been recently replaced its mint! drives alot better than before alot smoother! gonna give it a service after its mot this week :) a polish me new alloys on and then some more updated pics in thread! :D

look at strange problem k8 topic thtas what symptoms i got! and general fail under load/miss fire!
changing leads and plugs will help for a while but one day ul jus try an boot it an it will spit its dummy out and splutter!
