20 miles to the gallon :O

  • did an oli and filter before i fited it
an to be fair shes always been heavy on the juice

  • rofl put in a klze and remove the egr system and fit a 68mm tb and remove the cat and also for good measure get a complete powerflow exhaust setup including manifolds.

then come cry about mileage :(

ive had my car since tuesday and done 259miles and paid £90 on bp ultimate petrol :(

although i think the main reason why it was so bad was because the petrol tank was screwed!!! had a crack near the filler neck and was dripping petrol all the time so i swapped my 1.6 tank over gonna filler her up to the brim tomorrow and reset trip will post my results back when she runs to the warning light. hopefully i should see an improvement 111p a litre is a bitch and i dont wanna pay £90 a week to run it. no matter how much fun it is beating type R civics

  • My first MX3 had a split half way down the petrol tank. If you jack the rear drivers you can see the tank. I was fine as long as I filled tank less than half way and took care round corners. I bought a spare tank but never got it fitted as got new MX3 instead. I could smell fuel badly though and could see it leaking when I first filled the tank. It meant that on a run I sometimes had to stop for fuel 2 or 3 times.

This one is much worse on fuel than my other. Exhaust has given me some greif when I knocked back box off on speed bump but recently I noticed a crack in my manifold. I think I was getting only around 20MPG. I Noticed by smelling exhaust fumes in the engine. Then when dark at night in the cold I could see them with a torch beam. Fixed this then improved.

What MPG should we expect to be getting from
    a) Standard 1.8 V6
    b)KLDE
    c)KLZE

Its not just the cost of the swap but the running costs we have to consider. Also call me stupid but wont the emissions be higher for MOT on a bigger engine? If your car should be a 1.8 and is really a 2.5 wont this read above their guidelines?

  • I get about 26mpg daily driving and if i am real carefull bout 32mpg.

  • 32's not bad. I only got 33 being careful with my 1.6 Nova GTE. What engine you running and what mods u got? I just got filter and exhaust on my K8.

  • 1.8 with induction kit, straight through de-cated exhaust.

To get 32 i didnt go over 2500rpm it was bloody hard so only did it for a week.

  • Iget 33 mpg, which is why i wana get a diesel car, so my mazda is guna be up for sale after the mot….

    damn petrol prices

What else can ya do to improve mpg?

  • LPG conversion could halve your cost, though costs bout 1k to get installed. What diesel car are you going to get then? Run it on cooking oil lol - I know a guy runs his audi on it - works out 12p a litre! Totally illegal as the government doesn't get to add 1000% tax..

  • 33 seems excellent for an MX3. Why would you swap it for a diesel if you can get that? To get a diesel thats as fun to drive you would be looking at a TDI and then I imagine you would be getting about the same MPG as now plus if they go wrong you really know about it. Probably wouldn't turn as many heads either.

  • yeah 33 is pretty good, but i need something with a bit more room!! damn it

a friend of mine runs his 50/50 with cooking oil!! stinks tho.

Dont really know what to get yet, maybe a vectra estate, or in the lines of that!
my mates mums gota 2.5 vectra estate, black withalloys looks pretty good!!

    Any other ideas please!!!!!

I thought you were worried about petrol prices and ya gonna cruise round in a 2.5 vectra lol…

  • its not up for sale, was just saying that it looks good…..

oh and by the way i dont cruise, my car looks good enough without having to drive around the city thinking "IM THE DADDYS"

  • I've got the mazda Familia, the 1.8 turbo, its better on fuel than the 1.8 V6 and 40BHP more

Sorry i did not mean to imply that you cruise round or that your car does not look good enough….

  • lol, ,i know mx 3 are pap on fuel!!!

so does anybody know what tax brackrt the mx 3 will be in, when then decide to rip of drivers?

  • lol yea tbh I didn't take "cruise" as the literal poser sense, alas the failure of tone on the internet.

    But anyway vectra estate:
    Town mpg 20.2
    Out of Town mpg 36.2
    Average mpg 28.0 = 5 worse :O

What you need the room for? I find the mx3 quite spacious for its size. I go gigging alot and often have my marshall half stack, couple of guitars and my girlfriend in the front. Though people in the back seats do whine, but hey could be worse, could be a hyundai coupé!

  • Space wise for transporting general crap you'd be suprised how much you can stuff into a 3 with the back seats down and the parcel shelf removed I've moved house twice using my car and managed to et a hell of a lot more stuff in that I thought I would. however people wise unless your a midget or child your gonna get a bit cramped in the back  My ex was 5'4" and when she sat in the back she'd bang her head on the roof if I went over a speed bump. And before anyone asks why she was relegated to the back its because my mate is 6'6" so the only way he could get in the back is if I folded him double and put him in the boot

  • free roll. esp down hills and on gentle slopes on motor ways.. put your cats back on!(im not doing that)

just found out tonight as i was just to go to a cruise. that the joints between my back box and middle pipe, the gasket has gone. so thought ommm thats why im getting low mpg. (at moment 32, usually around 36) so decided to stay in tonight. tomorrw is a nice day of taking box off instant gasket and maybe green paint. with tips.

  • im guna get a diesel one, you get about 45mpg!
need the room because im a carpenter and although i agree the 3 has got alot of room, but the agro of folding the seats up and down and taking tools ot because they are on display is getting a little well BORING lol!!!

I cant get a van coz missus has an mx 5 and see doesnt wana get rid of that!!
