Rad caps

  • well I just swapped them over and i'm 5 miles from home its -2c and I've over heated! so i'm waiting for it to cool down a bit so I can swap them back.

are you sure its spring to the left? as it was fine to the right!
can some nice person check on their v6 please?

  • could not take mine off as remembered to look after went for a drive however if it helps the leamon shaped cap is on the left and the round one is on the right near the filler bottle.

  • thanks V. 8)

  • no worries. just hope this helps out your problem.

  • yea. the sprung one is on the cam belt side, i changed mine reciently cos it was leaking.

  • hey can some one with a v6 take a pic of thei coolant system as the previous owner butcherd mine!!!!! please

  • The FLAT one goes about the cam belt and the sprung one on the front.

OR you can use two sprung ones.

If you put the flat one at the front, water will continually escape into the overflow tank and you will end up boiling over and dry.

    Trust me on this!

  • Lemon on the left on mine!

  • thanks guys all sorted. I had it the right way the first time but not the second. lol

  • I'm confused - all radiator caps should function the same - regardless if they have a vent or if they are flat - correct?

  • sorry mate, thats what mine looks like, i've only got one on mine and the filler one, maybe it was dfesigned differently :?

The flat one on the rear left, by the cam belt, is a filler cap, not a pressure cap.

You CAN replace it with a spring, but the spring serves no function.

The front one, MUST be a sprung cap. It is only the front one that works as a 'normal' cap would.

lol both caps - filler or not - have to be able to take a certain amount of pressure or else the cooling system would fail … the right side has to be able to take just as much pressure as the "filler" one
