Dash leds

[to get it to read properly you need to pull the needle up abit, then after a while it stops working again and the reading starts from 1000RPM :?[/quote:271b6f2107]

you mean for you to get it to work correctly lol

not what he needs to do.

about the wiring up. i removed the standard controls pushed out the connections for power and earh and wired up that way. note i wanted a totally dark front at night so no heater controll lights.

  • ok, for me to get it working, to wie mine im sure i used the contacts from one of the other bulbs :?

  • Hmm, mine needed a 12v supply, is that what youd get from the dash bulb sockets?

  • mine needed 12V, Im pretty sure you do, the majority of the electrical system runs on 12V.

  • should got a power inverter with it to sort it out

  • yep, the little black box that has a brightness adjuster on it, i just connected that straight to where the dash lights connect and it worked fine, the illumination also came on with the side lights

  • Why I didn't wire them up to that point when I did mine I've no idea  would have been easier and made more sense than cutting and tack blocking wires behind the dash which is what I did. Oh well 5 years on and they still work so nevermind.

  • Don't get me wrong i usually take the hard way, and its usually me saying, oh yer, why didn't i do it like that :?

  • i've got the reverse glow dials, but for some reason i couldn't get them to work, tried everything, they're knackered.

Rather than send them back to the usa for replacements i just put four blue led sidelights behind the clocks instead of the green covered bulbs and now i have an awesome blue glow behind the white dials at night.

kind of a cross between the two i guess

  • i want the diles to light up white so i took off all the green covers but the dials are printed on green plastic i tryed sanding it off to see if it was like a pug witch just have die on the back of the diles but there still greeny any one know if you can get clear ones ?

  • not sure about clear ones. but there was a site i found before that allows you to choose your own colours and glows. etc black back ground with red lights. will try to find again. actually think RS mentioned it also

  • there is speedhut.com that makes custom gauges for the mx-3 not sure about shipping to the UK though :?

  • no i mean like i want the standard dash just not elglow just standard with white light rathere than green witch you cant get rid of coz there printed on green plastic

  • as said in PM dude, looks like the only way to go about it is to get custom ones made up on clear backing….

    Keep us updated dude

  • ok know any where that could do that ?

  • well like I said you can get some custom ones made and then just do your own backlighting like I did in mine…

  • Wow mooneggs!

That is an impressive bit of fabricating!! your clocks look incredible! thats the kind of look i was going for. you've definitely given me some inspiration!

hope you dont mind a bit of plagerism!!

  • how did you get the filter out of the clock ?
and waht did you use to get it to light blue

  • I think I read he used chopped up plastic files! So purple plus green = blueish. Nice bit of improv

yes that is correct I got some transparent office files and cut it to fit - purple gave it the look I wanted the rest of the colors really did not do much for it!… here are some links that helped me from the North American mx-3 site FAQ...

definately pay attention when doing anything around the needles cause if you screw them up you will be out of luck!!!

I bought these for my bulbs - some little 194 type bulb covers that were red -I used to have LED's but they burnt out since they in a dimming application…

you will also notice in my worklog I changed the blinkers to blue - this was done using 20oz bottle caps from dasani water LOL I just cut them with a dremel to fit in the space using the old green arrows as a template!
