Failed MOT on orange side lights

  • Hi

Today my 1995 import Mazda MX3 Eunos Presso 1500 failed its MOT on orange front sidelights. I was not amused because the sidelights were not picked up on an earlier MOT. Now I have to have them replaced in order to pass this MOT.

    Trouble is . . . what do I replace them with . . . and within 10 days.

Do I have to replace the whole unit or can I just replace the lens covers?

Any ideas where they can be sourced cheaply and quickly ?

    Regards

  • is it just the bulb or the actual lens thats orange?

    Hi,

It looks like I have to replace the R&L complete unit.

The current lens covers are orange, which don't comply with UK MOT specs.

I'm not sure if it's possible to just replace the lens covers.

    Regards

  • damn, i just looked in the garage as i was sure i had some…i must have binned them though

you'll need some clear units, just go on ebay and search breaking mx3

    Crap . . . Anyway thanks for looking . . . trying Ebay

  • I had the same story with mine,
you just need a pair of clear lenses
Main dealer tried to sell me the whole light units
but the lens alone is only a fraction of the cost

    d0707 073505/lens r
    d0207 073505/lens

they came to just over €50 so whatever that is in sterling

they're easy to change, just smash out the old lens from behind
or you can heat the whole light in an oven and peel the old lens off

then all you need are orange bulbs for your indicators

  • id just buy second hand clear ones and change them back if you want to keep them :?

  • Hi

Thanks for all the help . . . really appreciated . . . good to know that I'm not alone.

I have managed to source a pair of complete units through a breaker on Ebay. So I hope the guy delivers and the problem should be solved.

If its any help as a confidence boost to any readers, my 1995 Mazda mx3 only failed on the colour of the lens covers . . . the rest of the car was completely faultless. I think this says a great deal about Mazda reliability.

    Regards
