On the way to MPH

  • Buy another bumper from a scrappy along with any other bits that need replacing, and take it to a small crash mechanic if anything is bent and needs straightening and welding.

One of my mx3's was hit worse than that and repaired as good as new.

  • @97dd12b179:

For the record, it wasn't the BMWs fault so no BMW driver comments please!

As far as insurance is concerned the driver who does the rearending is always at fault.

    @97dd12b179:

In cases where there is a rear end shunt with no frontal damage to the front vehicle, an insurer will almost always allocate 100% of the liability to the driver of the rear vehicle. This is true in all but the most exceptional circumstances.

    http://www.lawanswers.co.uk/questions/rear-end-collision-with-no-damage-to-the-front-of-the-leading-vehicle-why-is-the-rear-driver-almost-always-liable

Gutting to see that happened to your car though :(

  • unless you were reversing down the motorway, were you bellers :P

  • the driver behind should always allow enough braking distance

  • Thankyou all for the info/sympathy.

What actually happened was the BMW and my Mazda were both stationary when the BMW was hit from behind by a ford focus. The focus has accepted liability. Car is in the garage waiting for an estimate as we speak so it's in the hands of the gods.

But for now at least I have a brand new golf rent-a-car to be playing about with!

  • Firstly Bellers… if the car is from Enterprise Rent-A-Car please dont post up about how much fun you are having... i am a manager and might have to get your wrists slapped!!! lol (which Golf is it BTW??)

Anyway, first place to look is the boot floor.... if there are ANY ripples that shouldn't be there you are in for a fun time, the car will be written off as a Cat C write off (uneconomical repairs). yes the car can be repaired.. but due to cost they wont do it. IF its just the bumper you will be fine. But I would doubt it. Have seen much less damage than that on a car which was written off for the same reasons.

If this does happen, express your wishes to the insurance company IMMEDIATELY that you wish to buy the car back. They will make you an offer on the car and give it you back so you can get it repaired yourself. Only prob with this is when you come to sell the car it will not be HPi clear (not that it matters that much anyway)

If you need any advice PM me, I check my emails more than I check this site but should be able to help you out with anything.

  • Anyway, as I was saying, the golf is a very functional car which encourages sensible driving at all times…

It's a 1.9 tdi which doesn't actually seem as quick or as nice as the MX but it is full of toys and .... wait for it...... 10 AIRBAGS! The thing must turn into a bouncy castle on impact!

To be honest, I'm being very careful with it because they transfered my £700 excess onto it!!

Should hear from the garage tomorrow..........

  • If its a Match, they are only 115 bhp, or maybe the 130 bhp dependant on which model it is. We have the 170 bhp GT TDi's too which are very quick. The TSi (supercharged and Turbo'd) are quick but so weird to drive the switch time between the 2 id just weird!

    Enjoy it while you can!

  • My mx is a goner. Chassis leg is knackered and would cost £3000 apparently. They only offered me £850 for it (bastards) and I can't find a replacement in similar condition for anywhere near that kind of money.
I think I may have to say goodbye to the MX-3 scene and buy my dads MX-6 from him.
Just can't believe what complete bastards insurance companies are to only offer me half of what the car in that condition is actually worth!

    Any advice would be great.

Also, I called the insurance company to get a quote of the 6 and they said that it would have to have an immobiliser installed before they would insure me on it. How can I persuade them that it actually has a factory fitted immobiliser installed? Apparently directline don't recognise that it has one fitted to the MX-6.

  • Sorry to hear about your car, insurance companies are bastards to be honest they never pay what a car is worth. As for the immobilizer on the 6 Mazdas with a card in the front of the folder that contains the handbook, this has the serial number and details of the immobiliser stating that it meets Cat 2 spec. This might help prove to them in already has one. But to be honest after they've screwed you on this I'd tell the company to fuck right off and go elsewhere. I'd recommend Adrian Flux they cover me for £200 a year fully comp :)

  • Unlucky man! I'm pretty sure you could pick up a decent enough mx3 for £850 off ebay. What did you put as your car value on insurance?

As for the immobiliser, surely you can goto a certified alarm fitter and they can verify and provide the necessary certificate? (for a price)

  • so you are saying that if i take my car car to an alarm place, they would give me a certificate to prove it?
Because i havent got a cert with my alarm, and i know its a full closure one!

  • Well I'm not sure, that was me assuming there'd be a sensible solution! It'd be worth a try. It's actually something I need to do too as I have a toad cat1/2 but no certificate. Might call alarm specialist 2mo and find out what the deal is.

  • @1c85bc0aeb=aiden:

On my old 205 Gti I got a fitter to confirm imobilerser installed and working .

Gave me a certificate which I then sent to insurance company .

Think it cost me £10 but saved £100 on the insurance :D

  • just seen this post… sorry to hear about what happened fella :(

I had the same problem with my old 106 rallye when they offered me £800 for a mint S1 rallye!!!

i told them that i want going to accept their offer and they bumped it up to £1500.....

I took it as it was dragging on and i needed a new car... but you should definitly tell them your not going to accept it!

If they say no then tell them to find you a car of the same condition for that money, then you will have it...

  • there are a few good looking mx3's on ebay at the moment, i have taken a liking to this one

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-MAZDA-MX-3-V6-LOVELYCONDITION-90K-P-A-S-CD_W0QQitemZ330191739156QQihZ014QQcategoryZ18211QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

along with an mx6 going for around 250.. 2.5 v6 im thinking.

  • Lol, clicked on the link and it had 16 seconds left!!
Oh well, I've sent a rather angry letter to direct line so we'll see what reply I get. I think I'm definitely gonna have my dad's MX-6.
Leather interior, more power, air con, less miles and the major advantage is that I know it's background.

We'll just have to wait and see what the insurance company have to offer….

(thanks to all for info, advice and support)

  • FINALLY got a settlement through on friday!

Over a year waiting and turning down un-reasonable offers, waiting for promised letters that never arrive, having my no-claims taken away and then put back on, threatening to visit Direct line to get some answers, contacting the financial ombidsmen service, but they've agreed to settle for £1095!!!

The moral of the story is …............. NEVER EVER, EVER USE DIRECT LINE!!!!!!!!

  • Well i am glad you finally got to the end of it, insurance companys are a pain in the ass….

  • almost a year to the day since your last post!! crazy stuff!!

    good to hear tho, congrats
