Fuel Consumption - What MPG do you get?

  • Bit late but thought i'd say, I drive long distance weekly with a combination of A road, motorways and stop start of m25, keeping below about 4500 rpm, i get about 260 a tank. with respect to premium fuels, this has been a big pub discussion between old and new cars, I used to use it and thought i'd gave better milage but after an engine flush and service was told that older cars PREFER 95 ron fuel(standard) after the service it was better. Higher octane will be better until a service,.

  • we should get about 100 miles to a tank when ours is done.

    2. Mazda parts are not the best quality and many of our cars are well over 10 years old now. It is a good idea to change the O2 sensors on the exhaust manifold/s as without these working properly fuel consumption will rise. Manufacturers recomend that they are changed every 25k miles. So ask yourself when yours were last changed? Especially on the V6 which has 2. I need to change mine too 8)

    Easy to do/access?

Did Exeter to Brighton on one tank a while back in mine (all motorway, no traffic, at "average" motorway speed). Thats gotta be about 300 miles. Still had some left. Basically didn't change out of 5th lol!

  • right know its been a while since this post was created. but worked mine out to day after using the car all weekend.

    im getting about 38-40mpg.

i thought omg my working out is wrong so got family to check it and its correct

  • @0c562be94b=Valley:

    im getting about 38-40mpg.

Have you got conveyor belts for roads in Wales?!

Seriously though, any idea why you're getting such good mileage?

  • Jono, correct me if I am wrong, but your running a KLZE on a K08 ecu….Not sure what effects that has, but I bet it has something to do with the lack of mpg.

  • I normally get 30-34mpg city driving in my k8 mx-3. It has 180k on the clock…

I normally get 22-26mpg city driving in my klze mx-3. For trips or highway driving I get about 30-32mpg with the klze (and that's driving pretty fast 100+mph)

I think I posted about that before I installed the ZE so the issue was never investiagted.. I do believe I actually have a better MGP at the moment with my current setup… still waiting for that ECU!!

    Jono

Edit: Yep, I was running the K8 when I posted that back last year :)

  • lol i wish we did. not got clue why im gettin that. filled her up to the top. drove her till was only a quater left. then filled her back up. and used out how much petrol was put in against the milage clocked up…

  • i get about 55mpg in a 1.6

  • I get around 170 to a full tank. I don't know how it's so bad.

  • have you given a full petrol system wash. etc redx injector cleaner. i do mine every 2-3 full tanks

  • No, Never thought about it really. It was layed up for 3 years when i bought it so everythings clogged lol.

  • 10mpg is shes been nailed..

    37 ish if steady driving.

  • try the system cleaners. if you never dont it in three years and she was standing before that then you should see a diff after 2-3 times.

  • Just did 240 miles Brighton to Doncaster on 3/4 of a tank so by my dodgy math I was getting 29mpg (but I was nailing it most of the way)

  • so whats wrong with mine? i put £35 in, i got to work and back 14 times at 2 miles a go, which is 28 miles, and i went to a mates a few times which must have been all of 30-40 miles, and the petrol was on the red line

  • 3.5 MPG. I think you must have a hole in your tank. A lot of stop start town driving mixed with a bit of high rev starting will eat your petrol but it'd shouldn't be anywhere near that bad.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • @d705d81343=hypnoticstoat:

    3.5 MPG.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Someones sold you a cleverly disguised hum vee as an mx3?

    Maybe same problem as wilko?

  • dodgy fuel evap lines? surely it cant be that

recently i've started to think its only running on 5 cylinders, performance has never been great, i even got pissed on by a clio and it barely keeps up with a three year old 1.2 corsa sxi  but it does make top end speed,

so in the coming weeks its going to get a ful service, im pretty sure it needs some friction gears replacing, it makes a noise abit like a cam lobe hitting the rocker, so its either that or i got a snapped rocker making it only run on 5 :?

oh and keep in mind from my house to work is a dual carraigewy :?
