6 speed gear box

  • bout the mx-6 gearbox will that fit in the mx-3 with 1.8 engine?

  • If a standard gearbox bolts up to a ZE then a mx-6 gearbox should bolt up to an mx-3.

But dont really see the point in doing it unless your current gearbox is knackered.

All the gears are the same except 5th and thats taller I think which means slower accelleration and a slightly higher top speed, so whats the point?

  • Surely for 5th gear top speed is a bit more important than acceleration though. It is for me anyway. All preference at the end of the day tho.

  • yea! u have a 3rd gear thats for ur acceleration! eveetything else is just for getting to max speed! anyway! if you have a jap car etc. your have a limiter on your car! so ur not gonna get past 118mph

  • It might save a bit more fuel though.

  • It's deffinitly worth the effort, got it for years now and it gives you abit higher topspeed with a klze and will save you money on gas. My klze with mx-6 trans is more fueleconomic than my k8 was with the original trans.

  • hummm not going to get past 118mpg,,, if your on about my mx-3 1.8 something wrong there. easy top 130. but enging wants to pull more but need higher gear.

so would the mx-6 work with the 1.8 as i dont think i will carry out the engine swap now. to much hassel at the mo!!!!!!!

  • when were they restricted??
havnt even driven my car yet!!!
so dont know if its is or nt lol

  • thats what i was thinking, as there is no way mine is restricted by ecu. only reason is restricted is as 1.8 not the 2.5.

  • Jap cars are limited to 118MPH
    mine is…
in 5th a 4.2k revs im on the limiter.
and cant pass out the god dam glanza infront of me cos when i go to overtake i hit 118mph and drop down to 116

  • cut the wire on the ecu, its pin number 11. Once the ecu gets no pulse from this cable, you get your top speed… I top out at 245kmph.
If you search on the net, you will find step by step.

  • Could it be that jap imports have a limiter but uk spec don't?
the majority of people on this website have the k8 engine as far as I'm aware whereas irish has a 1.5 import. could this be the difference?

  • The difference is in the ECU, all european ecus have no limiter where as all ecus out Japan come pre-prgramed to engage the fuel cut at 180kmph

  • uk spec ones arn't limited, i agree with the fuel thing, at 80ish your at 3500RPMish although mine hits the red line at 140, so i dont think top end speed is a problem :?

With my KLZE I'm using a tranny from a 626 (not sure if you have those over there but same gearing as the mx-6). I've had my kl36 ecu modified with no rev limiters or fuel cutoff… fastest I've been in the mx-3 is 154mph and I didn't want to go much faster than that :D I'm sure that's very close to the limit though... maybe squeeze out another 6mph... not sure though

  • we certainly do, but they aint the most popular car

  • my standard k8 takes me up to 140 its an m reg ( 95 ) but useing the vin its a 93

Does the whole box just slap on? All G series - so all good? Or did you have to take them apart and swap internals etc?

I just slapped the whole tranny right onto the klze. The only thing I had to do was move one of the studs on the top for the tranny mount!

If you want a higher top speed this is the tranny to go with… 4.39 vs. 4.11 final gear ratio :D

James Lee: I am assuming you mean 140kph?

  • nice, that sounds mighty tempting. So all gears taller? Affect your 1/4 mile much? Must help the economy a few mpg
