How to - KLZE SWAP shopping list info

  • Hi, Welcome to uk-mx3!!

    For the engine swap:

    NEEDED FOR SWAP
2.5 v6 KLZE Engine from either MX-6 or Millenia (easiest to fit) including Throttle Body
KL31 ECU or chip your old ECU (more info here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/728690/1989-ford-probe/page-6/ )
Uprated Clutch for 200 bhp (Zero Sixty, ACT) avoid racing clutches designed for much more than 200BHP (buy MX-3 clutch as you will use the MX-3 Flywheel)
    New Engine Oil
    New Gearbox Oil
    Coolant/Antifreeze

Thats it everything else can come from the old engine.
    Distributer, alternator, Flywheel, Engine Mounts

    ADVISED FOR SWAP
Cambelt or cambelt kit if you can streatch to it
    Waterpump
    Oil Filter
    Thermostat
    Air Filter
Rocker Cover Gaskets (I really advise this one)
    New uprated brake pads
    Decent set of performance tyres

Take your time and paint/detail the new engine and gearbox while they are out of the car. Makes a huge difference, takes ages and a lot of masking off awkward shapes, but trust me if you don't do it now you never will and you will regret it if you dont.

You will need at least, prime, colour, clearcoat (clearcoat really makes easier to clean etc)

    OPTIONAL UPGRADES FOR SWAP
    Lightweight Flywheel
Stainless steel 4-2-1 Headers (much easier to fit with the engine out, but a bit of a pain if you need to keep EGR as need to make a custom metal pipe up) never seem to fit out of the box so may require some adjustments by pro exhaust shop. Sound awesome, great performance, will drink way more fuel.
    De-Cat Pipe
    Aftermarket Exhaust

OPTIONAL UPGRADES FOR SWAP THAT NEED HEAD TAKEN OFF
    (require new head gasket)
Uprated Valve springs (interprep? or KLDE?)
    New Valve Stem Seals
Re-seat the valves while your at it with some grinding paste
Get the head gas flowed (polished and ported)

  • Just to add to the list

EGR can be removed for an extra couple of bhp and still runs perfectly :bigok:

  • The guy I wrote the list for was from the USA and I wasn't sure if he needed to keep EGR on over there.

But in the UK, definately remove the EGR.
