'92 MX-3 Precidia K819 hesitates on acceleration

  • '92 MX-3 Precidia K819 hesitates on acceleration. Engine feels really great until sudden loss of power kicks in while roughly accelerating.
On engine I've done so far:
*replaced ignition parts from coil to plugs
    *replaced all vacuum hoses
    *replaced all filters-fluids in engine
*cleaned clogged EGR tubing in IM
    *replaced EM gasket
    *welded exhaust tight
*taped air duct cause it's quite cracked
    *adjusted TPS, ignition timing, idle
    *checked for air leaks
    *checked VRIS actuators
*replaced temperature sensors and cooling caps

There are no diagnostic trouble codes saved in memory. Car runs rich as far as I could say from the smell of gas that comes from exhaust and by spark plug carbonization. I have noticed oil in air duct and IM, exhaust is smoking. I haven't measured fuel pressure so far, checked lambda sensor or catalyst. I'm using online manual for trobleshooting.

Hope to get some good advice.

  • I had a similar problem which turned out to be the ignition module. It happened to me twice in quick succession so I doubted it was the module and tried coil, leads, plugs, crank position sensor but did the external ignition mod and so far seems to have done the job!

  • Made a couple of videos to give you a better idea of the problem I have:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2AtuCOmrYI
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uaRXuhPyM8

Also I measured cylinder pressures. By manual the normal pressure of a cylinder should be between 10.0 to 13.6 kg/cm².

Spark plugs were again a little carbonized. Soldered in additional ground for emission canister purge solenoid valve, so that's gonna be working from now on too. Didn't make it to measuring fuel pressure yet, going to do that today or tomorrow. PCV is good, tubing is ok, still there's oil in intake duct and IM.

I have also already replaced coil, rotor, rotor cap, leads, plugs - all new details. Only thing that's used in ignition system is ICM, which came from a Probe.

I have seen similar topics in different Mazda forums where users mention that power loss occurs while cornering, which made me think of the moment my car loses it's power I'm also turning mostly sharp right. Got to check connectors and wiring also, I guess.

I still have the GM HEI module I ordered at first when I got into ignition problems. I'm not burying the idea of trying it again, but i rather prefer not having an additional "thingy" like it in my engine bay.

  • Problem was solved by swapping the fuel pump.
