New baby. Here we go again!

  • Hi all,
This is my new baby, following a rather nasty collision with a Ford Ka in my last one :(

I have 2 questions i'm hopeing someone can answer. She has Lexus style lights front and rear but they give off f*** all light - anyone else had this problem?
Also, she came with a Mazda alarm certificate but no alarm fob, and no central locking. Do i need to just start from scratch, or might i be able to use exisiting wiring? Any ideas on cost?

  • Is full beam definitely working?
What headlights do you have? pics?
Most projectors are made for LHD use and may need modding to RHD you can spot this if they are lighting up the opposite side of the road a bit?
Are they pointing too high? park infront of a wall to check…
Not all bulbs are equal, a brighter clearer white bulb might help?

never seen one without central locking before, i'd whip the door card off and have a look see if its installed or not.

On some pre 1994 cars I've seen genuine mazda factory fitted alarms, but never on one of your age. Are you sure its a genuine Mazda alarm, if so might be worth a call to mazda to see if its possible to get a new FOB.

  • Apologies for the delay - shes been buried under snow for the last 2 weeks. Here are the offending headlights - anyone recognise them? The instructions to change them from LHD to RHD sound very complicated - so i hope thats not what the problem is!!!

  • Having done a bit of google images searching, i believe these are 'Halo' projector lights. I can only find them for sale on USA websites - can anyone confirm these are LHD lights and if so how easy are they to fix?

  • Hi VA I cant comment on front projectors! you probably know from yr last mexy if it had standard lights, that they are generally at best 'PANTS'! what ever power/colour temp bulbs ya put in em :(
Imo its more down to poor reflector design and bad bulb/reflctor positioning. :(
Did you comment on the rear LEXUS units poor performance? do you know if
they are filament bulbs or LED type? if they are poor then chances are theyre
LEDS? Yes! they dont consume as much current as filament bulbs and the
modern looking reaction times for on and off lack the slow fade of filaments but imo, unless you pay mega money for double direction Q5 cree leds a filament will out perform and be more cost effective as apposed to 'fancy' leds :)
    just a thought fella?
Hope yr headlights PPP turns out to be poor bulb choice and not as you fear LHD syndrome! :( kev b

    That easy :)

  • Well! there you go Mr vampire, its a doddle! a what? a doddle?

  • Hiya, if you check out the pcitures on the how to convert to RHD, best way to check if they have been done is drive them up to a wall very close

Look at the photo of the wheely bins on the how to, if they beams look like they doo on the bins which is flat to the right and raised to the left they have been converted, if they go the other way they are not converted and wll fail an MOT as well as blind everyone coming towardsyou

The projectors are much better and brighter than the standard lights so I would check them out first before going back to standard

  • I took her for a drive in the dark to test those lights and they light up oncoming traffic, but not the verge on my side - so i think thats proof enough i have LHS ones :( Anyone wanna fix em for me?!?!?!
On the bright side ( no pun intended, hehe) after a whole days elbow grease, she's looking bloody lovely :)

  • she does look stunning. The paint is in great shape! :bigok:

  • Schweeett! Good job, not thought about going back to standard lights?
