Lots of issues

  • hi there evereyon. I am in desperate need of some help. I have a mazda lantis type r kfze and i have quite a few engine gremlins that i cant seem to sort out. This started over a year ago now and still not been able to sort it. Firstly the car started taking longer to start and the colder the weather the even harder and when it did it would be coughing and spluttering. Next both fans started coming on as soon as the engines fired up and stay on till the engine is turned off. At this point power sometimes would drop off and every now and again would come back. I changed both water temp sensors and it made no difference.i also tried setting the tps but couldnt pick up the 5vs or the resistance. I then tried changing ecu. I turned the key on and everything was fine and as i started it she fired up immidiately which she hadnt dont in a very long time and almost straight away smoke came out the ecu. I stripped the e u to find that one of the lInks had blown. I stripped my original one and found the same link blown. It is the link that goes to the water temp sensor, MAF and tps. I have checked all theses for shorts to earth buy cant find any. I then tested the tps to find It was completely buggered so i tried my spare and It made no difference. Also i have fitted a fuse in the lIne of the link that keeps blowing as to try and save the ecus as had the links repaired. So that is where i stand. Completely confused please help

  • I would try and get another known working wiring harness/loom and a new battery and try that out, sounds like something is plugged in wrong! failing that pay an auto electrician to diagnose it?!

  • Well I got to apologise as have been a stalker on here for quite a long time. My name is Ayrton and I have a black Mazda Lantis Type R which I have owned for about 3 years and unlike Col mine is a manual lol. Guess can kind of be blamed for the other two joining as shared a few links from here with them. Our normal forum is quite good but you guys seem to really have a lot more knowledge about the v6's (especially in modifications to them) than on our forum. So I hope you dont mind but I will be picking a few of your brains and hopefully will meet some of you guys at meets and stuff.

    :) Epic Ninja Quote.

  • back on topic now lol. I did end up fully rebuilding the engine as well but it was all fine and the problem was still there after the rebuild. Also I have a wiring loom on the way but for some reason i dont think it is the wiring as it is only blowing the link in the ecu when the engine fires up and the fact i couldnt find a dead earth but i am still going to replace it to be safe. Also I work on ship and spend 4 weeks at sea then 4 weeks at home. I set my self a goal of getting a leccy to come look at it when i was last home but for three weeks they kept giving me excuses why they couldnt come

  • Does sound like a wiring / sensor fault ??
There is a section of loom really close to rear exhaust manifold, mine burnt a bit after klze swap as it wasnt pulled up high enough.
    Have you pulled codes ??.

  • I tried pulling the codes once and I am sure it came up with 1-knock sensor and 2-front bank lambda… I can see how those might affect the power but doubt they could affect the rest of the issues. I did pull all that wiring up before i came back to see and could visibly see any damage.

Thats a bit shit then mate shame on that company! How about your alternator, what state is that in? could be sending out a power surge on fire up?!

  • hmmmm never thought about that to be honest… I did have to get it replaced 2 years ago and had to have a special one ordered in as the lanits one is slightly higher amperage. well what I will try is to disconect my main feed to the alternator and then try start it again and see if the fuse blows again
