Project 999

  • Good luck man, a lot of weight to strip out! Get that a/c outta there!

  • good luck get some pics of your own ASAP!!!! :respect:

  • Can I post up pics on my profile or in this thread, or is it just the links that can be posted?

  • ye you can post pics in a thread
    this is how

  • cheers, will sort it tomorrow

  • An old filter tried in place. Fits and sounds pretty decent.

Is the weird cone part the AFM? Is this necessary as it seems really restrictive?

Sound deadening and possibly dash still to come out.

    My wee assistant.

Wires still to be checked and anything unnecessary removed.

Actually kind of big in there when its empty lol.

Seats will go back in, but not much else. Door cards have been removed, with the handles re-attached.

If you look closely you will see a wee bit of the old tin worm in there. I don't think the car will through another MoT test without some major welding repairs. So looks like she will be scrapped after this event.
Might sell on as a rolling shell if anyone was interested.
Will be selling all parts removed that are still in good condition so if there is anything you need let me know. Will open up a thread in the parts section soon.

  • if your changing the altinator belt it will be worth removing that aircon out its quite heavy

looks like your getting there fella

    Fast work on the stripping!

  • That engine bay scares me (ignore my user name), all that grot will have me tossing and turning all night, I hope you're going to sort it out otherwise I may be tempted to find where you live and do a midnight cleaning
    Good luck with the build.

Hahaha the rust will hold in there long enough to complete the event, then after that its either to someone as a project car, or off to car heaven.

I had it lying around in the workshop so its a free mod.
Although you can spend up to £999 on the car, we are trying to build it as cheaply as possible.

  • All the stripping done in the pics took myself, my mate, and the wee man about 2 hours to do.
We just set about it and got lucky that none of the bolts were stuck. Almost everything that came out is pristine.

  • You paid nearly £1k for it? I think most on here will say you've been cheated bud, no offense, good MX3's go for that these days! I'm not trying to bring a downer on it but it looks like a dog for that price :/

As I say, no offence meant and good look with the build and hope it all comes together well.

No, I paid £250 for the car. To compete in the challenge the whole build has to be under a grand.
I'm looking at springs now to lower it, but we are also considering cutting the springs down….. full on bodger motorsport stylee lol

Ah, phew, If you're not going to be using the car daily then cutting the springs would be a cheaper option as parts for these are few and far between 2nd hand, one thing I should have taken off my car before I scrapped it was the springs really, think I paid £100 for my -40 mm springs (which seemed to do FA) then I got sick of the car (big story on here :? ) and weighed it in.

What event is this as I think my civic is well eligible for this (as long as it doesn't involve speed?)?

  • The springs are tapered on the front so you will have to cut the bottoms off. I've cut one ring off mine and that seemed to do the trick

  • I think I may have a set of lowering springs spare. I'll check later.

  • The event is the PPC 999 Challenge. Practical Performance Car (PPC) have been holding a competition for a few years now where cars valued at no more than £999 compete in 1/4 mile drag races and a timed slalom course.

    Check it out here:

  • big fan of that magazine. we should try and get a group feature as the mx ticks all the boxes of what that magazine focus on.
