Why are our headlights not great?

  • Does anyone know the exact reason why mx-3 headlights dont give out great light?
is there anything that can be improved on from the inside? apart from the usual polish/100w bulbs/HID etc.

  • its the shape and the lens thats fitted, thats why its poop
The pattern on the lens is to push the light into a certain direction but you do lose some of it through it

100% recommend projectors, it leaves driving in a whole different light with them
    just like that

LOL sorry for the bad joke, had to be done. search fleabay for projectors you can get them for about £150 and do the RHD conversion yourself

  • Im after something that looks OE
Have emailed a few companys to see how much it would be to reproduce
the lense in acrylic for a hi/lo retrofit!

  • mmm yes exactly like those, but better fitting and from the UK :D

  • I'd deffo be interested in these if ya get answers back…

  • :D

Got a reply back from http://www.star-prototype.com/services/rapid-prototyping/polyurethane-castings/

who say they can do it, but I need to send them photos and dimensions for a quotation, which I will do tonight just so we can find out if its going to be mega bucks or not!

  • ok reply back thus follows conversations on acheiving a smooth mould from
the original lense that is not smooth on the inside .

    @a56ad8bde4:

So, that means that we will have to take your original and fill the surfaces and make them smooth. The problem with that is that we will never really get that 'gloss' of an original part. The reason is that we will have to use paints to achieve the gloss and that is never as good as a polished plastic.

Therefore, we will need to reverse engineer the part by laser scanning the original and CNC machine a master with smooth surfaces in PMMA Acrylic and hand polish to a gloss.

I will ask my RP Projects team to quote you for lens that is:
    Reverse engineered
CNC machined from the new data and hand polished
    Silicone rubber mould
Up to 15 off cast PU parts
    Thanks

    Gordon

    This is sounding expensive….

  • and I was right, although it has been interesting finding out how much this type of stuff costs in the real world…

... for 15 pairs including the master molds $13,849

    and for 1 pair $4,192

  • @5b60b91f73=youdirtyfox:

    and for 1 pair $4,192

    keh????!!!!!!

  • Who's up for a group buy?!

  • honestly find the earth of each bulb and run a new one to it to a new earthing point and buy decent bulbs.

i had 55w hella bulbs and they gave out the same light as a cheapie 100w bulb. and the halfrauds super brilliance is the same

  • Theres a few things im going to try. A voltage drop test to see if relays will help and polish the inside of the lenses along with some new earths and decent bulbs.

  • think i might have to try some 100w bulbs in mine as the light output is pretty pathetic, and yet i still get some cars flashing me because they are "too bright"? could be the yellow fogs mind ;)

  • over here nothing wrecks my head more than someone with their fogs on and even more so when they fit hid's to them. who aligns thier fog lights, no one they usually are pointing up!!!! not directed at you dan just a random rant.

@dan do you have plastic or glass headlights?

lol no fooence taken, mine really arn't that bright and defo not HID's just standard bulbs. as for the headlights, i have the standard glass ones with the chrome centers. i think they are the original SE headlights

  • I fitted projectors in place of my fogs so they have a tonne of light output but have a clean cut off so dont blind anyone. My headlights are spot on, standard 55w bulbs, maybe try polishing the outside of the glass cos it doesnt make sense that mine are good and everyone elses seem to be bad, so must be either discoloured/damaged lenses or poor earthing.
