  • Well I received my K&N air filter cone with fittings but no Air Intake pipe, the one thing I
Wanted was not included in the Induction kit I ordered.
I'm at a loss as to know what to do next, the standard replacement Air Intake pipe is
$87 and I can't find an aftermarket replacement with the 2 outlets for the 2 pipes that have be connected. HELP please.
    Wayne.

  • could you not cut the standard pipe where its split (not too close to the edge) lpt some slightly bigger pipe over it with a jubilee clip to hold it in place? its only a bodge but i am sure it would work and probably only cost a couple of quid to do

what I would do personally is remake that whole section out of a silicone elbow and aluminium joiners. 1 of the outlets doesnt need to be there,
as you can use one of these on top of the rocker cover where the old pipe used to join to.

then you just have 1 connection to make, so you could use something like this, which is a dump valve T piece.

and join it to the throttle body with somethin like this.

and if you cut a straight section of that elbow , you can use that to join the other end of the dump valve T piece to the MAF sensor.

  • mmmm shiny!! gotta get me some of that for my induction kit :D

  • That idea sounds great, where do I get these extra parts from, I have already Gaffer taped most of the Air intake pipe up apart from where the 2 pipes join onto it, and it hasn't made much difference, I also had the exhaust checked out and it turns out my back box baffles are worn, so its not that. I'm not happy at the moment with what I have received as an Induction kit from seller for £75 and all I have received is a cone filter with fittings. It seems the problem maybe a fuel starvation problem if the Air Intake pipe is ok, but I won't know for certain until I remove it to have a look at its condition.
    Many thanks
    Wayne.

  • all the parts can be found on ebay i will put up links later if you don't find them . the elbows are about twelve quid and the dump valve piece usually less than a fiveR. i built my own induction kit for about thirty quid .

If you could post up links later matey that would be great, I have to go to work soon so I haven't got the time to look at the moment. You can't buy these from a motor factor can you, as if its eBay again, I'm not going to receive now until next week, and I wanted to fit this over the weekend.
    Many thanks

  • Thanks matey, i have took a chance and ordered the all the goods, i will see what extra i need when i receive and order the rest later.
    Many thanks

  • Well yesterday i went down down to my friends house to sort the new induction kit out on the MX3. We removed the air intake pipe, removed all the
air box and filter. Then worked out a way of using the new silicone elbow, dump valve pipe and K&N air filter. Then we tried to fit the mass air filter sensor to the bracket supplied with the K&N filter and this is what we encountered.

As you can see you can't fit a round hole into a square hole, after reading the description on ebay saying this was for a 1.6 MX3, it obviously is not.
So i inspected my original air intake for leaks and discovered on the flexi part of the pipe, there where cracks in the pipe. So i gaffer taped the pipe up, and we fitted all the air intake, old air box and filter back on the car. Then my mate spotted the throttle cable on the car was slack so he tightened it up, i drove the car back home and apart from the rpm rising to 2000 when at a standstill, the car runs perfect now. I have got to loosen off the throttle cable a little, as i suspect its to tight, and job done. I will be returning the K&N filter to supplier for a full refund, and leave it as it is for now, and can always try the induction replacement at a later stage.
    Many thanks guys
    Wayne   :D :D

  • I had this problem on my old carisma, but it was the other side. the MAF had a square hole, trying to get a round air filter on it. I just made a bracket out of some study plastic and a soldering iron. however, that looks a bit different there as the square is very small isn't it. defo not for an MX3 i'd say

  • try this one if you get your money back

looks like a full kit and its bidding so could go cheaper than you paid

  • Before we tried to fit the MAF sensor to the K&N we was about to cut
some of the old intake pipe to fit onto the end of the dump valve.
Fortunately we didn't or we would have been in a right mess lol.
    Wayne.

  • lol yeah i bet you would have been pretty pissed if that happened

  • glad to hear you got it running it again ok. good on ya for buying the elbow & T piece set up, you will have to let us know how you get on when
fitting it up later on, and just shout if you need anymore help with it :)

Will do matey, and thanks for your help, still baffled how the MAF sensor would be screwed down onto a cone filter with regards to where the screw holes are. Will keep you posted.
    Many thanks

with some kind of plate like that, replacing the one on the MAF?

  • That Induction kit looks more like the perfect item for me, and a fraction of the price of the K&N , wish I had seen that earlier lol.
