Oh yeh im sooo up for that, we to flash mob the site and get a 50 8)

  • im surpised its ever more than 10, theres not many regulars, infact, theres about 10 lol, but its always going to be limited in popularity as there just isnt that many mx3's around when compared to the likes of an astra, megane, clio, saxo etc, and fewer people over the age of 30 are going to be interested in any form of internet forum, they probably dont even know that such a thing exists.

Ive seen about 6 mx3's in my town alone, it houses something like 40,000 people, and not one of those cars has been in anyway looked after, some have paint flaking off and severe discolouration, to dings and scrapes, to just general poor condition, if they had any pride or interest in their cars, they wouldnt allow it to become like that, and since they clearly dont care about their cars, they would have no interest in being part of a community that loves their cars.

About the only hope getting a more populated site would be getting more young people to know about mx3's and that they can actually afford to run them since theyre not tarred with the same insurance vs chav brush as the cars mentioned above, then youll get car proud owners which want to meet like minded folk. Sadly people who value their cars are a dying breed, most just see it as a way from A to B and have no care for its condition or maintenance, so long as it works then its fine, you never ever see those people on a forum, sure, theres people here asking about the condition of theyre car, but atleast theyre interested in it rather than just allowing it to get to such a shite state that it does break down, then joining and asking how they can fix it.

I work with about 80people and of them all only one person has known what my car was, and thats not to say he didnt just read the badge on the back of it one day and then come and talk to me about it, the amount of people who have come up to me and said "nice car mate, what is it?", or think its a modified version of a tigra is astounding! I just dont think enough people know these cars even exist, and about half of the people on the forum have only joined to flog some parts or car they no longer want, they couldve joined at any time while owning the car for which those parts were meant for or the car theyre selling, why they didnt, I do not know, but they didnt.

  • HERE HERE!!!! lol

I have a phone that rings and receives texts, lets me ring and text other people too. I don't need internetz on my phone because I have a computer at home (and usually I just break phones by looking at them so no point in having a super dooper "hey man I'm cool" pocket warrior).

  • i have 2 computers, one laptop and one tower but the tower is too slow to use and the misses is always on the laptop so i find an internet phone very useful to me :)

I hear ya bud, my computer has uber fast 24mb broadband, my phone, thats got like 56k modem speed!

Yeah I know theres some old ahem sorry, matured people on here in their 30 or 40s or wherever, but how many of you is there compared to how many guys are in the 20's? Its a different era thing, 1980's and youll have had computers and technology integrated into your childhood, going earlier than that and youll have been 20 before pc's became an everyday item, and for most of that age or older it becomes a tool for reading the news, or mediocre task. My parents have never been on ebay, and are terrified to buy anything online due to cyber fraud and all that, they dont feel clued up enough to stay safe, even though almost everyone else on the internet just gets on with it, never once has cyber fraud crossed my mind, but then I know the difference between a profesional website and a retard with dreamweaver.

In times gone by the AA patrolled the streets on motorbikes with a sidecar full of tools and spare parts, and you only had members who looked out for their cars because cars where expensive and where a necessity, now theres a 400quid cheapo rust bucket bargain on everpage of the classifieds, so why buy a car for 400quid, and then spend out 300quid on a good set of tyres, 2-300quid on a cambelt change, 50quid on oil and filters change or 80quid on some good bodywork products? They just wont, because the car "isnt" worth it. I can get that, I really can, but I also completely fail to see its logic.

Sure your not gonna want to spend say a quarter (£100) of the value of the car on maintaining it, why bother, the car isnt that valueable.

This is where people fcking annoy the hell out of me. So your car cost a couple of hundred and you dont want to maintain due to it not being 'worth' it/enough, these people are complete dicks, if they do not fix it then it will break down, then theyre always be running around balling their stuipid little eyes out cos theyre now without a working car. So, they have to buy another 400quid scrapper, and the process repeats. I have one girl here whose a fellow tenant, in the 2 years I have known her, she has had 5 cars, yes, 5! each one, she has fucked over, not through crashing it, just ragging the balls off it and then whinging about it and managing to scrape together money for another one. Only through the intervention of either myself or her step dad, who she has an appauling lack of respect for even though the guy bends over backwards to help her out (whered you think she gets the money from). On ever car shes had, its been hmmm when shes turned up in it, but, never has it been fcked beyond repair, most times its actually nothing major at all.

With the BMW 318i she had, nice car, her brother lent her it while hes in some dusty place with people trying to shoot him. No problems to begin with, but as the weeks went on, things started to go, and when they went and didnt get fixed, 2 more things would go, and so on and so on, on the very firs day she brought it back, she gave me a walk around of the car, and under the bonnet, some bright spark had used bog standard gaffa tape to repair a split hose for air through to some part of the throttle body. 5 Quid fix from any halfords of motor factors. Never got done, long long story short, car eventually ended up in an completely screwed state, would drink petrol like it was just leaking it out the fuel rail, car would take minutes to start, most often starting for a few seconds, then cutting out and refusing to start again, more and more problems than I can remember.

I looked into it all and got a manual for the car for me to read up on it, but no way I was gonna work on that car if she wasnt going to pay for parts, I never ask people for money when I fix something, I prefer a pack of beer or some other 'gift' because Im doing it because I want to help them, not everybody has their own tools and a bit of know how or even drive to get oily, thats fine, I dont like baking cakes or hoovering. Im simple to please, give me something to fix, or let me play xbox, fixing things brings its own 'psychological' rewards. But I wont repair anything unless that person is willing to pay for the proper parts required, I dont do bodge jobs, unless its can still be safe and only as a get me mobile til I can afford the part needed.

Last month on car 5 (Fiat Punto) the clutch apparently (I have my doubts on this and suspect it was just cable stretch, but I wasnt asked) went, so that got fixed, then a fortnight later, the cambelt went, her step dad discovered it was a non intereference engine, and got a new cambelt, to be fair, he did the whole job, but got it wrong, when I went out to replace a sidelight bulb in the 3, I offered a hand, which at first they said dont worry, it must have proper gone as it would turnover a bit then stop, so they believed the valve or something must be stopping it from rotating and that the car was then condemned to the scrappies. Her s/dad had had enough, he was clearly disappointed he could save it and had just lost the will to carry on. I managed to sway him into letting me have a look over it. It was as anyone reading this might have already guessed, the timing was way out, and was FYI trying to suck in air while both valves where seated lol. I figured out hed done this by tensioning the belt in the wrong way, as those who have done belts/chains before, the tensioner side stays slack, the side without a tensioner must be as tight as you can get it, while maintaining the timing alignment marks, THEN tensioning the belt on the tensioner. SO, after that was remedied, 2 seconds on the key and it spluttered into life again, saving it from the scrappies, and saving them the need to buy another car. Im a smoker, and I have an addiction for Relentless energy drink. Everyone who knows me, knows this as Im am never seen without the two items. While the gesture was made that Id get a 4pack of relentless :D, it never turned up, and still hasnt, funny how people can forget the things you do for them, even when its digging them out of a rut and getting them going again. This isnt the first time, but certainly will be the last time that my assistance is given, I saved them hundreds of pounds by giving them my time and knowledge. Yet such a small gesture of reward cant be given, its inevitable that my help will be required again, Ive been involved with each of these 5 cars, parts arent ever bought so Ive never fixed any of them any more than having a look and seeing if I can either find the problem or rectify it without a replacement part.

Weigh it up. £4 to reward someone for their time, and saving you alot of money, vs having no assistance next time. :?

This is the kind of people were faced with, they cant be bothered to spend a few quid on a part, and if you help these kind of people, youll be wasting your efforts.

  • jesta… very long post but i do know what you mean. My sister used to have a BMW 318 also. she owned the car for about 4 years and washed it once in that time. if anything was to go wrong with it she would ring me and ask what it was ( i would help where i could ) and then ask her boyfriend but it never saw a garage or had a timing belt. i think the tyres were only changed when her boyfriend gave the car a "check over"

I have to maintain my cars no matter the expense. if a wheel bearing is going not only can you hear it but so can everyone else outside the car. its a pride thing for me mostly and the satisfaction of fixing a car myself.
