Just got a quote

  • just got an insurance quote on my old mx-3 and it has gone down from £650ish to £380 fully comp!!!! GRRRRR why did i get rid of it!!!!

  • Wow nice!! I'd be happy with £650 on insurance :P sucks you dont have the car no more…

  • i got 2 years no claims and had a licence for 6 years. the only reason i sold the car was because the insurance was too expensive. now its cheaper than my alfa haha. try swift cover. they are a bit touchy with age and no claims but if they quote you they are normally the cheapest. ( via go compare)

  • and the £650 had interest added on top of that which topped it up to nearly £1000. at 24 i am too old to be paying that much for insurance lol

  • Lol I'm 23 and paying 1200 for my insurance I realty wish mine was that cheap

  • jesus maybe i had it good with the £650 pmsl

  • I'm paying around £600 TP with all mods declared on my 1.6 (I'm 31), parked in a secure yard, without mods I was paying £300, why are these things so high on insurance? It's not like my car is gonna get stolen….....

  • £300 is a great deal!
I'm 25, living in a nice 'safe' city and have to pay: wait for it :P

£815!! Though I do only have 1 year no claims and been driving for over 1 year now. But still, those quotes you guys got are making me very jealous :P

I dread to think what'll happen when I move back to London

  • Im 26, 1 years no claims no convictions or previous accidents, Im paying £1548 TPFT, and that was the cheapest, via admiral.

i'm 24 with a licence since i was 17. i'm paying 1k on a comercial jeep. to insure the mazda they want 5.5k
i live in the middle of nowhere

  • South east. 1hr from London. 30 all mods declared just under 500. That using either my 10'ys no claims or my 3 yrs no claims.

  • I think that the V6 is a group 15 and the SE's and Equipes are a groupe 16 which is pretty damn high for a 1.8. I think alot of it is to do with the postcode.

  • 29 5yrs no claims was paying £350 3rd party for ZE with all other mods declared too.

Before the recession hit I was paying £250!!

Best price I could get for the same car before any mods was £440.

Always give HIC insurance a try, they are not on comparison websites, they also give you different prices month to month as their clients run different deals.

  • i am paying for my ze with all mods declared - £850

    26 years old
    2 years no claims
    no crashes

Thanks for that tip! I'll definitely look them up :)

  • HIC and Adrian flux are sister companies, and both terrible unless your car is literally uninsurable by anyone else due to its mods. They gave me a quote of £1320 yesterday, put me through toanother company (Alan & Alan) and they couldnt do any better. Went on gocompare today, bog standard my car is £714, with mods (filter, exhaust, projectors) £745, again, with admiral (my current insurer) gave them a call, they offered me a 10month policy for £665 (£4 more expensive when divided by the amount of months it covers, but it gives me an extra NCD 2months quicker, which saves me much more than that) couldnt find my projectors on the system, but put it down to rally/spot lights, so price went up to £694, then because Im a renewing customer, it went down to £640, so its £105 cheaper for 10months than 12, get 1 years NCD 2 months sooner, and its not far off 1/3rd of what Ive paid for insurance this year and thats with mods declared!!!!!!!!! Awesomeness!

  • well done bud, just proves that even if your car is modded normal insurers will still sort you out.

Im with direct line, loads of people hate them but they have been good for me…

  • my friend is with them, had a fiesta and now a 306, hes 24 and has had 1 write off accident, actually rolled the car a few times and walked away from it, old polo's obviously are pretty tough! think hes only got 2 years ncd atm, and his insurance for the fiesta was £6?? fully comp through direct line, we tried them for our primera and it was ridiculous, got it through quinn direct for £580ish.

When we wanted to insure our next car we turned to them again since they were the cheapest for the primera on go compare, and it was really expensive for the astra, go compare, admiral was the cheapest.

Gotta hand it to admiral, theyve come up the cheapest on our last 3 cars by a long shot, closely followed by elephant, but ive not heard anyone whose used them, and admiral is usually a few quid cheaper and well known so its kind of a no brainer, if elephant was 30+quid cheaper then id go for them, but theyre not. After Admiral and elephant, my insurance is on average (FC/TPFT/MODS dependant) between £1,400-£2,600, bizarre how it sky rockets after just 2 insurance companies!

Id advise anyone to run quote on gocompare and compare the market, as I have had different prices for the same insurer, when I first insured the mx3 go compare was about 30-40quid more expensive than ctm, both with the insurance through admiral and will all the same details, this time around on ctm admiral refused to quote but go compare admiral did.

Also check again on your renewal notice, admiral sent me mine saying it was £915.59, after going through gocompare it dropped 275quid for the same insurer, and with more mods than what they had stated on my renewal! Seems they really dont want to give you the best price unless you go digging for it, youd think going direct would be cheaper since they wouldnt have to do the comisson on the comparison website, but maybe it works in their favour cos it puts them to the top of the list and so guarentees youll buy from them over someone else, which means they take someone elses business, which is good for them even if its not as much as theyd want, better to have something than nothing.

  • Oh, and they didnt hike the price up even a penny for switching from £250 voluntary excess to £0!

  • **Oddly, I did some insurance quotes for Marvin, in his future finished state, today.

I ran a quote through on Confused for a laugh, knowing that I'd get nowhere - 95 of 96 insurers refused to quote - and did a genuine one through a specialist as well. The specialist quoted £400, which was fine.

A little later on in the day I got a phone call. The phone call was from the one insurer on Confused - Youchooseinsurance.co.uk - who did actually offer a quotation. Here is the entire conversation we had:**

    @0a4c260afe:

Hello, I'm calling from Youchoose insurance regarding the Confused site. I'm just calling to check that our quote was acceptable? It says here that we quoted you at nine… thousand four hundred and forty pounds? You're not going to take that policy are you. Thanks for your time.

I say "conversation". It was more a monologue with an epiphany halfway through. She'd clearly picked up the phone and dialled the customer and then called up the quote on the screen, mid-spiel…
