Sound proofing or at least helping.

  • I know the ford probe store sells them, but anyone got any other ideas? or a place that sells it in larger sheets.

  • In marine engine rooms we use Armasound, its very good 15mm foam that just blocks out a lot of sound and its fire proof and self adhesive, you can get it with a layer of rubber bonded in the middle thats even better

  • I remember looking on eBay for dynamat a while back and the prices were pretty decent. I think someone on MX-3.com soundproofed their MX with dynamat too.

:? Rather unnecessary to completely remove those posts no? It was an interesting discussion….

I was looking for that post on MX3.com but didn't find it in the short time I had.

I asked rainy to clean it, I have issues with Paypal and Ebay, so I use them as little as possible to the point I'll pay more to get something from elsewhere then use them.

If you wish to discuss/debate the topic of EBAY then please do so by all means but start a seperate thread..
Like i have asked please keep on topic here..

  • I used to use dynamat in my cars when I was heavily into the modding scene, I don't know what sort of price your looking at spending on the stuff nowadays but most car stores should sell it, or an equivalent

  • What the hell? The whole threads stripped! What a waste of time that was.

    Ok, short responses then

    Google> Problem Y/N?

    Google = 5 matches - 1st Page

You didn't post anything of valve to you the thread anyway, so not a big loss.

  • Ok fair enough it may not have been particularly helpful, but your asking for help when you already have the capability to find the answer, ie google or ebay.

I said you could use foam, they use foam in recording studios, an inch thick foam is gonna be far more better than dynamat or its variants, plus foam is super cheap. If you have a roseby's local to you, have a look in there my local one has it, think they sell it for padding out cushions and sofa's.

Foam for sound deadening needs to be as less dense as you can find it, if its too dense then it just acts as a solid lump and will actually transmit sound more than deaden it.

    See, Im being helpful. :)

  • Looking at the dynomatt stuff, as it's going under the carpets it needs to be small-ish as well.

Its an idea I've had that I doubt will become more tbh.

  • Sound deadening might not be that useful then, it would probably just get crushed under the weight of carpet and the continuous trampling on it. You could however maybe talk to a carpet place and see if they have any hideous designed carpet that is just lying around and they want rid of super cheap, then lay that down under it, alternatively maybe carpet tiles would work since you could trim them pretty easy and their cheap.

Is it really that noisy in your car?

  • alot of carpet underlay will give 20 to 40Db sound reduction.
isnt there a fella on .com who painted rubber deadening solution
    under his carpets?

  • If you want quieter road noise then start at the tyres first

  • I rarely have music on so all I hear is the road :(

It's almost coving the V6 sound, so I'm looking at ways of removing the road and bringing back the reason I own the car :)

Got me interested in this now :D

    Interesting read :)

Will pop down to B&Q and see if they sell Ice-Guard on the weekend.

Crikeyt thats pretty good, I was thinkin you meant that underlay they use for laminate flooring, but the clue was in the fact you said carpet lol

Whats that rubber stuff then? Never heard of anything but foam for sound deadening, do you know if it works? More info?
