Hang on a minute….

  • …dont these cars have a "low fuel" indicator?

im allowing myself to run low-ish due to money, and today took the car out, needle above E, but as it has dropped to the E line, no lights, no nothing...

    ill checkmy manual!

just wanted to run it by you guys...

  • mine does, bright orange light at the bottom of the guage thought they all had them

Nope and I've had the dials out and replaced ALL the bulbs to LEDs too. When I first got the car I wasn't sure but now I am sure.

  • Not all of them do, no. My V6 doesn't, for a start.

I think they may have just had a guy choosing at random on the factory floor

    "hmmmm, oooh, dat one"

  • Mine does, and it's a base spec 1.6.

  • Mine does, in fact, both of mine.

Now you're just showing off.

  • my 1.6 dose but both v6's dont shine a light
my fuel needle is below the E most of the time it takes about £10 to get from nealy running out to the E line but not got to the point in splutering yet which is good lol

You can't read dials? :P lol

  • mine doesnt either, '98 v6, is it normal for the fuel guage to always show the fuel level even with the ignition off?

  • Mine has no warning light–-Uk spec 97 V6.

Its a total arse pain as the gauge is not very indicative ---in fact its the worst gauge Ive had apart from my 1965 morris traveller.

I reset the trip every fill up and refill at 250 miles.

I also carry a gallon in the boot as a just in case.

Some car's do, some cars don't. It's normal either way.

My old se had the fuel warning light but my new one doesn't.

I know, what Im talking about is the needle, mine always shows how much fuel is in the tank whether the ignition is on or off, surely that means that voltage is being constantly supplied to the dial, which surely isnt normal since the ignition is off

**I've had mine so long (seven years) it's second nature now.

Totally full lasts 50 miles before it even moves.
Full to half takes another 100 miles.
Half to quarter takes another 50 miles.
Quarter stays at a quarter for another 70 miles, then plummets suddenly to just over empty.
Just over empty to empty takes 30 miles.
Empty at actually empty (two needle's widths below empty) is 30 miles.

So "E" means "1 gallon left" and my range is 330 miles.**

  • Dont really understand the problem, this is the first vehicle Ive had with a fuel guage in 6years of being mobile, I just take it at face value, mine shows 1/4 left after 160miles, takes 29litres to fill back up. If it says empty then why run it any further? Whats the point of continuing when the possibility of running out of fuel could be imminent? Your still going to have to fill it back up again so its not like its gaining anything by letting it run low.

**Fuel = weight = performance killer!

Incidentally, you're getting 25mpg. Lots of short trips, by any chance?**

  • Lack of fuel = No performance at all

sorry that was pounds, normally use about 24-26 for that mileage which is composed of town, country and dual carriageway (road to work)
