Broken Key - No Spare

  •

Just broke my key in the door….. Ain't got a spare....

Anyone know an auto locksmith? Anyone got advice??? It'll be gratefully received!!!

    Hammy

  • supose if you could get it out you may be able to still get a copy made. What lock did it go in ? mine is still stuck in boot lock, but left it there as im going to de lock it eventually.

  • you may be able to get one from mazda i now there not cheap but if you can get in and get a code off the barral of the lock they should be able to get a key but im not 100% sure that this can be done on mx-3s

  • I called an Auto Locksmith today… he's coming tomorrow..he doesn't have any transponder keys... but he has a non transponder key which he thinks will work if i keep the transponder beside the key until i can get a proper key sorted....

Broke in the drivers door.... didn't even get the car unlocked.... Priced new keys..

From Mazda... £45 + VAT forthe key and £40 for the coding of the transponder

The guy coming tomorrow wants £60 for a full service i.e. call out to site, transponder key cut and coded..

So, tomorrow should cost less than that.. i hope it works cos otherwise i don't have a car for at least until Wednesday next week.

Found a site that does key blanks for just less than £9 each... so all i'd need is cutting and coding... hope this guy tomorrow will give me a good deal

  • To get the key out bud is easy, take the door card off get to the back of the lock and you should be able to just push the remainder of the key out of the lock with a pin or something thin from the inside out.

Then just take the 2 parts to a locksmith and he will be able to make you one for no extra cost.

The transponder key you can jusy take the plastic trim from around the ignition and sellotape it to the top of the lock and use a standard key from then on

I got the broken part out of the lock… From the outside as it broke without actually unlocking the car....

I have this guy coming at 10 so fingers crossed i'll have a key to get in and start the car soon after.... The transponder should still work if its on the same keyring as the new key....

I ordered 2 new key blanks online... so I'll get them cut and eventually get them both coded....

  • I need my key code :(

Auto locksmith tried cuting a key.. it didn't turn in the door barrel…. Tried calling local Mazda dealer... No answer!!!!

    Running out of options.....

  • Get both parts of the key and take it to a shop tomorrow, believe me they will have a much better machine to cut it with than a mobile machine.

Mazda will charge a fortune but there are cutters out there that can find the key code using a machine and repair the key for you, I used to have one on ebay that would cut and do the code for £20 but he seems to have dissappeared but some shops can do that for you.

Also take the key the guy cut for you to the shop, they may find the problem too

  • forgive me for this complete noob question but what is a transponder? i have 2 keys which dont look original and came with a pinkish tube attached. is this it?

A Transponder is a short name for a "Transmitter/Responder" There is a small box behind central console that "talks" to the chip in the key… if they don't "speak" the same code... the car will not start.

  • thanks for clearing that up foe me hammy. sorry im such a noob. i will try mechanics but when it comes to auto electrics i am baffled

  • Well, took it to local locksmiths…. he broke the key even more!!!

Going to Mazda on Wed to get this sorted hopefully by Friday!!!

  • Got a spare today!!! :D

My advice to all out there… Get the Key Code from Mazda!!! Will make geting any keys easier in future.... Code the code to any auto locksmith and they'll be able to cut a key for you....

BTW its £57 for a key (without coding) from Mazda.... It's £35 inc coding on average at any place that can code keys....

  • i best get one cut as i only got 1 key for my v6
