Bodywork

  • Next year I'm gonna be stripping the MX3 right down and sorting the body work out (and doing a ghetto respray). I know I am going to find tons of rust (rear arches are bubbling already) so how would I go about treating this/repairing it?

  • Cut & weld new baby :)

Do you think double sided sticky tape and paper mache would work?

  • Best way I found is wire wheel as much off as possible then paint a coat of jenolite over the area, this way it destroys any remaining rust in the metal, I think painting battery acid on the affected area also dissolves the rust like the jenolite without leaving the primer

That seems like an easier way.

It might, but then I think the arches would fall off the next time it rains :)

  • It depends how far the rust has gone back, I've had bad bits cut out and rewelded plates in, if you could get hold of a sandblaster, you can blast it out, or grind it out, get it back to white metal, use an epoxy filler, that will stay in there forever, won't fall out, then fine fill with a polyester filler, use a zinc based 2 pack primer, then re-prime with a 2k primer and topcoat.
