How much is the cold killing your 3?

  • @96989d6d29=youdirtyfox:

will just be the battery mate, mine died last winter..cold kill old batterys
my alt belt has been slipping and screaming and conking the motor out, bit of talcum powder sorted that… for now.

Mines been the same, might try some chalk from work tomorrow, I know it needs replacing but it's too cold and I can't be arsed at the moment.

  • roger that!

  • You may be able to get some extra protection by putting a thin sheet of varnished/waterproofed wood under the battery, batteries drain faster when stored on an surface that it can conduct through. Also wrapping it in flame retardent could help keep the cold out, though how safe that would be I do not know, though batteries shouldnt get warm anyway so probably pretty safe, but Im not gonna say that it is, so use your own common sense.

  • bough a new battery a few weeks ago, go the screaming cold fury belt issues, still takes a slow meander to start. suppose you could trickle charge over night to keep it happyor jst remove it at night.

  • I have an optimate, thats what you want if your gonna do trickle charges, they come with leads that you hook up to your battery terminals, and leave there permanently, then when you need to give it a charge just insert the connecter, its the same kind of connector as they have on those ready made battery packs in remote control cars, so no faffing about or croc clips coming off etc

  • my mx always takes a hile to start in the cold. at least 2 seconds before it turns over and it runs like crap until the temp gets up. and i had a new battery when i bought the car a few months ago.

  • I could do with a new battery too problem is how do you change battery with suspension brace bar in place. If I have to remove that I will have to leave it wrapped up and tucked away untill it gets warmer.

Just undo the top mounts and it should come off easily to get access to the battery.

  • Cheers, will wait for snow to go before I do it.

  • Well no issues here Wes is running like a dream and as for meggy she loves the snow drifty drifty nearly 300 horses awesome times…
