Springs Group Buy - £90 per full set

  • I wanna say im in for this but at the moment money is very tight to justify spending a couple of hundred pounds on something i dont need :(
so for now, 50/50, and maybe a pm when theres a close date to this happening so i can answer definitely?
what would people recommend as a good lowering height for a mix of comfort ans look as i have to drive 400 miles every other weekend and dont want to be crippled at the end by bumpy things :)

  • I want to but unfortunately I am getting married in a month and I have to put all cash into that but after that then maybe

    **Congrats :D

    My schedule for this is

    Soon: Take them some springs
A couple of months: They test and analyse those springs, give me a price and fabricate the desired products.
January: Money. Springs arrive in the post. You then get many weeks to fit them before May and all the car shows start occuring.

So we're looking at interest now, confirmations in Novemberish and delivery in January. Five interested people, as we have now, is good enough for me to progress.**

  • I'm heading down to see these guys today. There's still loads of time left but, if anyone else is interested, please let me know - the more of us buy, the cheaper it gets.

He's not joking either, after the fiasco we had with my springs, it could take weeks for older MX3's bolts to eventually give up and get loose!

  • **They have the springs now, so they'll be testing them shortly. They're going to give me a price for:

5 sets - stock replacement; stock rate & height
    5 sets - stock replacement; stock rate & -40mm
    1 set - -35mm, 50N/mm front, 30N/mm rear (non-progressive) :D

Last set are mine (but if you want a similar set, tell me). All the others are up for grabs as of… right now, actually.**

    -40mm for me

  • **I shall reserve you a set under "interested" until I have a price in my hands - remember though that the price could go up if there's less uptake.

Oh and they'll powdercoat my set purple. If you want a set coated, let me know your colour - it'll add a little to the price though.**

Powder Coat in Black is fine by me.

Keep me in the loop as regards to pricing..

    Cheers

  • **Okay, I've had the quote back. You all braced and ready for this?

    £90 per set

That's including VAT, including a stock black powdercoat finish and -40mm springs are no different in price than stock replacements. Delivery isn't included.

However, this price only holds true if we can shift 10 sets - reduce the quantities and the price goes up. Frankly, at this price I'd buy two sets (but then my MX-3 is staying with me until one of us dies).

That's £90 per set of four **

  • Whoa!!

Might be worth posting up on mx-3.com about it? Could get a few more people in.

  • **"Whoa" indeed.

They have all the sizes on file now, so if there's any other "special" requirements, like mine, they can do them but expect to be paying £35+ a corner for them. I'd prefer to concentrate on this group buy first.

Even if you weren't considering changing your stock springs, for £90 (plus delivery) it's almost insane not to. Nightstalker's were almost corroded to the point of failure - and that's just about the youngest MX-3 you can buy (1998).**

  • I'd like some please, -40mill also.

I know nothing about shocks, but any chance of getting them a little harder? or would lowing do that anyways?

  • Woo!!!! Result… Just need 10 peeps to buy a set.... or, I'll buy 2 sets.. Standard and -40mm - 2 down 8 to go.... 8)

If you're lowering for looks, 40mm on stock rates should be fine but personally I'd look for higher rate too for those occasions I'd be spanking it to prevent it bottoming out. If you'll be spanking or tracking it you'll want higher rates and/or uprated shocks. I can get for quotes for any spring height or rate you want.

  • Normal 40 will do then good sir. (another xmas pressy I know i'm getting lol )

Mine is -40mm and i have to push it quite a bit to get it to bottom out (except for speed bumps :( ), never tracked it though so cant speak for that.

  • Going to have to drop out of this.

    I has crashed. :(

  • **Oh sphincters. Everyone alive and well I trust?

I'm "not currently in the UK", but I shall forge ahead more with this next week when I am.**

  • **Right. I'm back now.

We need more interest to get this price. Three of ten sets does not a group buy make and at this rate (no pun intended) they'll work out more expensive than my own custom-made nutter set. Which is bonkers.

Even the newest of our cars is twelve years old - the oldest is nineteen. If the springs haven't been changed in all that time you'll have a saggy ride and run the risk of failing an MoT on excessive corrosion (I've even seen some which have snapped). For £90 and a couple hours work a corner (or £20 bunged to your local friendly mechanic) it's almost nuts not to…**
