Help with my Wipers….

  • hi
When i bought my mx3 the previous owner had rewired the front wipers direct to the battery to a little switch near the gear stick, this was done casue he said it kept fusing, i checked this but he had a 10 amp not a 20 in the fuse box but i need to rewire the two orange wires back in? any ideas how?
do i need to wire them to the back of the fuse box or somewhere else?

    ta!

  • trace it all back to where he cut and re-wired and then redo to original…

  • i would but got no idea where its been cut from?

  • where do the wires for which he used come from, trace those to the source..
unless he never used a relay, tbh to help here it would be easier to see pics of the work and what has really been done …its very easy to post an issue on a forum to get help but you need to offer specifics to get the best advice..try and post some pics of the work done and we will see if any of us can offer the best advice..

  • I would post the images but the site won't let me and clearly don't have the tech know how after reading the faq.
    apologies in wasting your time

    many thanks

  • tricky one to work out without seeing it!

Just goto photobucket.com, start an account and follow the instructions :)

  • Okay so after much frustration and head scratching heres the pictures of the wiring its the two orange wires from the little switch to the battery.

Thanks for your help with this :D

  • It looks to me like he's bypassed the original wiring completely, which is good! I would guess you could:

-unplug the connector from the wiper motor
-disconnect the red wire from the battery
-plug back in the wiper harness hanging just below the wiper motor
-put the correct fuse in the fusebox
    -test it

If it works proceed to remove the rest of the botch job.

  • awesome, will look into it and let you know how I get on

    cheers

  • If you put it back together with the original wiring and its knackered or you may need to get a new stalk unit on the steering column, they have a small circuit board and flush fit mini relays in there that can pack up, you get the voltage through there but not enough amps to power them which looks like everythings fine by voltmeter but they still dont work.

Also leave the wiring in there if it runs to the battery and wire something else up to the switch

    Maybe a set of these
