Your own work and confidence.

  • As of right this moment I don't feel confident enough to do work on my car. (anything saftywise - Brakes, Engine ect)

I've restored 2 stroke bikes and can work on them all day long but for some reason the "car" feels me with fear.

@ 19 years old and with more expensive parts, doing the work myself and getting it right would speed up the work that needs doing so why can't I jack the SOB up and do the breaks myself?

I have more manuals and online help (you guys :) )

How did you guys get over it? just dive in and pray?

(I'm not from a mechnical background)

  • do you have a manual lori on the mx3…just follow step by step as you take a part apart place it in sequence of removal.. then its just put it back together..
as for saftey always make sure the car is correctly supported and safe to work under,,never just rely on a jack always use axle stands..

some bolts on the car will more than likely be siezed up and require a little help a good penetrating oil should help there...

  • I've done brakes before myself on my old Civic and to be honest I won't do it anymore due to the hassle I had doing it.

Saying that I did have a lot of problems doing the civic with bolts snapping and/or rounding off and having to replace calipers, pain in the arse when all I wanted to do was change the pads over!

The MX is due some new rear disks and I could probably save myself some money by doing it myself but it's going in to the garage to get them done.

I'd say if you don't feel confident doing it then let someone who knows do it, especially when it comes to safety issues. Car manufacturers have made it harder and harder for people to do work themselves these days, I used to do some work for renault and you wouldn't believe how hard they have made it on some of the new models to replace the battery or even change a bulb! I think it's the Modus that to replace the battery, you have to remove the scuttle panel to get it out! The new Megane to replace a headlight bulb you have to remove the font bumper!

Thats my issue, What looks like a 30min job would turn into a right nightmare thats fix-ability is way out of my control and ability.

I have the Chilton manual but manuals don't give you the "real" picture lol.

  • **Have you even driven a Rover?

That was made, by hand, by a bloke who didn't want to be there, didn't like the car and who hates you. You quite like your car and I assume you're fond of yourself. Surely you can do a better job?**
