KP's MX Track Car aka 'Reddy'

  • Finally, before the 'Ring I wanted to pimp my wheels. I managed to swap the stock 15"s with some TSW 16"s with lightly used KUMHO tyres.

    Before…

    After…

At this point, I also replaced the exhaust with the stock exhaust as it was blowing.

  • Now back from the 'Ring, I started by getting some fat off the old girl.

Don't worry, the space-saver also came out!!

  • very nice start love what you done with those wheels good job :D :D :D

  • Cheers! Couldn't stand the stock ones, and those TSW's in silver looked even worse! Defo needed a bit of colour! 8)

  • What did you use to bring the engine up? I haven't found a commercial engine cleaner yet that doesn't say you can't use them on unlacquered aluminium…

+1 on the wheels they look hot.

  • Famine, honestly just used a wire brush and a spot of WD40. Took ages but as you can see it's well worth it. I'd also get some wire wool to get in the nooks and crannies, esp. round the TB.

I'd love to get it properly done but couldn't stretch to that at the time!

  • I was considering something similar. WD40 is ace :D

  • Totally agree…it gets rid of ALOT of s**t!

  • **sprays Peter Mandelson with WD40

Well… nothing else has worked so far.**

I use engine de greaser and a steam cleaner. Works all the time

  • take those gray cups of the top of your rear struts there only mounts fior the rear seat belts

  • already done James…must've been an old photo

  • Im with stalker i use degreaser and a steam cleaner.. but ill will be trying the old wd for afters…

    nice wheels kp...

  • Guys I'm looking to respray the car silk black, but to do it myself. Firstly, is it worth it, e.g. would it be cheaper and result in a better finish if I used a spray house? Secondly, does anyone have any helpful hints they could pass on? :D

ps: Cheers for all the good words!

  • silk black …do you happen to mean satin black...

  • glad you're here!

  • KP thats what wes will be eventually …im having him redone in satin with a satin lacquer finish..

  • Are you having it done at a spray shop, or are you doing it yourself? I always thought it'd be fairly expensive doing it privately…

well most of the work i will do myself with a little help, ie the rubbing down etc etc.. then the when ive had the base coat done i will wet sand back myself before finish coat then wet sand again before polish myself and then lacquer coat…

if you can do most of it yourself it does reduce price i have a very good friend that will allow me to use his facilities and supervise me also.. i try and do as much myself on all my cars...im budgeting around 500>1000 for my spray job..

I believe there no such thing as a cheap spray job its labour intensive work so be prepared to cover this...man hours cost..the more time spent on prep the better the finish imo..

    Rainy...
