Oil leak on rocker cover

  • i have a leak.. rocker cover gasket has a leak .. to make it worse its the back one that leaks the most the front one just slightly . took it to a garage they wanted about 280 sheets just for the back one … need to get it done but is that price right or can anyone help..

  • sorry cant help as your too far away fella but there quite easy to do..repalced the front one for a member in 20mins…

  • front ones are easy its the back ones that are a paince cus u obv have to take the inlet manifold off i got a friend in bullwell nottingham who does alot of the work for mx-3's i can always see if he could help u out and sort u out with a price and number.

you would have to buy the rocker cover gaskets urself obv and i would advise a new tb gasket as its always worth doing. also if u need a new knocksensor i would ask him to do it then as hes already half way there heh

  • £280?! Does that include the KY jelly so the shafting doesn't hurt too much?!

That sounds more like a head gasket price. I recommend doing it yourself, but I would say that, take me about 1hr, most of which is cleaning the mating surfaces.

IF you lived near me I'd do it for £50. Doing exactly this was the first real maintenance I ever did on a car. Took about 2.5 hours being a complete noob.

  • told you to come and see me ash..

  • Shame bout the distance, i done my one's also, after an awful lot of engine staring….amazed by how many pipes and plugs this thing needs to operate!!!

  • will be going to your neck of the woods in september . going to camarthen bay area and cardiff.

  • but you want it fixed before then right? we'll have to meet up and do some comparing

  • if you want it doing ash let me know

  • will do welly i will order parts on wednesday when i get paid.. then we will give it ago.

  • im free thursday and friday night dude

  • try this, my mate done it with a cerial box on his golf 2.8l vr6 and it worked perfrct http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rx5hGKt1PY

  • not had the money to do this yet . but it has started to smoke i abit keeps puffing out white smoke on acceleration. it smells sweet i am assumeing its the gaskets that need doing !!!
    am i right?

  • No, rocker gasket leaks will not make your car smoke.

  • sounds like head gasket…

Has is it overheated at all? got mayo under your oil cap?

You dont actually say where the smoke is coming from :?: :?:
I had smoke coming out of bonnet vent due to oil leaking on manifold.

Smoke out of exhaust definitely nothing to do with Rocker gasket.

  • sorry yes out of exhaust but only occasionally its white smoke. no mayo under oil cap . i topped up with oil the other day . is it easy to change head gasket im ordering rocker gaskets
soon . theres a full set of gaskets on probe store for £130 would that do everything, head gasket rocker gasket etc…

  • not always mayo on cap if head gaskets gone

shouldnt be to bad to do

  • do you think we can do it then welly . if so i will order the gasket set tommorow

  • yeee

depends if the heads need skimming also

  • i can categorically vouch that just cus there is no mayo on the oil cap dosent mean ur head gasket hasnt gone. safest way to be sure is go to a garage and get them to test if there is any fuel in ur radiator. i.e unburnt hydro carbons.
