Noisy AFTER oil change

  • Have just carried out major service and cam belt change on the mx. k8.
Used engine flush and 5w-30 fully synthetic oil. This cured the tapping that I had from the front bank (HLA's I guess). But now I have a metallic noise/tapping coming from the rear left (cam gear area).Any ideas..?
Have I used the right oil..?

  • could it be a noisy tensioner or if the performance is down a bit the cam might be a tooth out

  • Did cam belt change first.Followed instructions posted by Famine(spot on, thanks bud)It ran fine after that.
At this point just had tappett noise from front.Added flush, changed oil/filters (oil, fuel, air). With engine cold it sounds really good, was well chuffed, but as soon as the oil got hot the noise started from rear left.

  • My KLZE is noisy sometimes from rear left bank, have done several oil changes using different oils, seems to be getting better, am currently using mobile 1, 0 - 40w grade, this has been the best oil so far as the viscosity does not thin when hot…... Just my 2 pence

  • yeh 5w 30 is thin anyway so when hot is very thin, next time i would use 10w 40, thats what im gonna do. How old is you engine etc, i dont like using the flush tbh i have been told although it could just be an urban legend that flush cleans "natural errosion" spots in your block etc and can do more damage than good.

  • Sounds like the friction gear spring! Mazda made a revised friction gear spring and the circular spring keys into the nut itself. The old design relied on tension alone and eventually starts spinning.

  • I was reading about the friction gear spring on mx3.com.
Not really sure what it does? :?
Was thinking about changing the oil, as everything is pretty quiet when the oil is cold. I have heard that mobil 1 is good, like everything else, you get what you pay for.

  • …Engine has 90k on it and dont know what oil previous owners have used, although it had full Mazda history up to 60k.

Interesting?? Maybe thats whats wrong with mine as, it comes and goes, you can hear it switch off engine, restart and its gone. How easy/where is friction gear spring??
