Filter behind throttle body

  • WHAT BIT ARE YOU LOOKING AT :)

  • Ok sorry its my fault for not looking before asking, this is what i mean but i dont think in standard

Since looking i found its some kind of breather that splits and goes into each rocker. However the filter is quite dirty and may need replacing, what is going on with everyone else'

  • Ok if you look at my pic I'm only guessing this but I brought the mx6 flex pipe that connects onto the throttle bodie then I've taken over with my own intake set up. You haven't got this flexi pipe and you have your own ducting straight onto the throttle bodie. So I think if you look at my first pic on my last post above that black pipe about 15mm going in at a right angle is not connected to the intake on yours as just has a breather filter on end. Now I think it's a pressurised oil system ie undo oil cap and engine cuts out. So should that breather pipe be connected to the intake. Maybe that loss of pressure is what's causing you idle probs. Sorry if this doesn't make sence it's hard to write and reference on a I phone!

  • well i understand ya lol..

  • It looks like some type of PCV breather??

Hmmm sound theory, will have to have a look at that, and if that is the case would it go before or after the throttle body. What exactly does yours do its a bit hard to see on the pics.

  • Think Garfy nailed that one

The breather is not standard, it should actually just be a pipe going into the intake pipe (previously the accordian). In your case that means the blue bulging one between the VAF and the TB. The reason that it will cause problems is that there is unmetered air entering the engine (ie. it didn't go past the VAF). So the breather is effectively a vacuum leak.

If it runs well it's no big deal IMO, though MOT guys over here wouldn't allow it. If your idle is sketchy it may be a contributing factor!

  • Thanks everyone, i will make some changes and see how its goes.

  • Sorry to hijack my own thread but marco can you take a look at this if you get 5. Thanks.

Did you actually see some of the stuff he made before and do you know if anyone actually got what he made for them.

  • It's really easy to make your of skirts and bumpers. If you're interested, let me know :)

  • ok barry well hope this does sort out your idle probs so this is the part were talking about, that 15mm pipe sticking out is where your breather pipe needs to connect once that breather filter removed

id possibly look for a 2nd hand one, unless you can adapt what you have

Thanks bud bit on the pricey side from there eh, might try some scrappers but gonna try adapting what i have to start with. I have loads of piping etc lying around so shold be able to plumb it in somehow.

  • Just to confirm, yea Barry that filter is on the valve cover breather and should be connected to your air intake. Yea you should be able to plumb it in, just cut in to the air intake somewhere close to the TB.

What a bummer though, I had that pipe same as on probe store!!! A while back I ordered a VAF from a Jap breakers and it came with that pipe!! I chucked it a couple of months back as it's been hanging around for years so I got rid. I guess the JE50 I had came from a ZE then!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing! Soz bud. :(

  • lol nevermind, it will be easy to fix now, i just need some time and some tubing
