Sun roof

  • How hard is it to fit a new sunroof motor? as mine is running ok to open it, however takes an age to close (if at all!!)
if it did pack in while open, is there a manual over-ride?

  • Its one fault on the mx, most have poorly working sunroofs. If they were maintained and greased they would prob be ok. Mine opens wonky! And lifts slightly above 70mph!!. Hate it, was toying with a manual opening conversion but might just tak weld it shut!

    oh i forced mine shut!.

Not the only fault dont forget about the dodgy keys and locks that break all the time.

  • just grease the runners and its good to go again.

+1 Had to do mine, the only issue I've found is that sometimes it lacks the power to get the roof up before it moves backwards :)

  • sounds like i'm lucky not to have a sunroof!

    air con ftw.

  • Mine opens when you slam the door (like Jezzas Porsche on Top Gear)

  • Hate you barry!, without going off topic, snaped key in rear boot lock, think its because i always use the key to lift the boot up. Doesnt really matter got loads of keys! just need to get bit out of lock. Shame no one can make a key of a stronger material?.

+1 Makes me laugh every time to watch it jump up.

hehe tell me about it…. on topic anyway i just doint bother with the sunroof, pain in the arse!

  • If it is the motor, there is one here for sale

But usually if they close or open very slowly or seem to jam its usually loads of sh*t in the runners and they need greasing regularly, try a bit of wd40 in it to start, if it works, find a decent silicone grease and smother it in the runners, keep opening then good coat, close then open again and repeat 2 or 3 times to get it in there properly.
Use silicone grease only, if you use the white duckhams stuff or similar it holds on to the dirt and grit and dries out making it worse in the long term.

WD40 is only good for the short term it soon wears off if used regualarly but is very good for loosening sticky electric windows
