Rear washer blocked??

  • my rear washer is blocked, i htought the res was empty but its full, the motor/pump? is working but nothings coming through, its not frozen its been like this for a while, any one know where to look for blockages??

  • first thing I would do is stick a pin in the nozzle, not sure if thats good advice mind you!

  • sounds like good advice

  • if that doesnt unblock it, pull the hose off of the washer bottle, go to the petrol garage and shove some compressed air through the pipe…

should soon blow out any crap :)

  • **Check out the efficient Search function :D

Mine's been "blocked" for a while now. Reservoir full, motor whirrs, nothing comes out.

Since I'm going to be putting two interiors together, getting the best bits off each and putting them into this car, I decided to pull all the interior panels off to investigate where the blockage might be - plus it might have perished/split and be pissing screenwash somewhere in the inside of the car.

So with all but the headlining out, I gave it another bash… The fluid flows through the pipe with no problem at all until the C-pillar... Where the pipe is routed upwards, the pump apparently runs out of sufficient pumping ability to push it up the pipe there. No blockage, no nothing. It just stops flowing.

My next plan is to put Marvin's rear screenwash bottle/pump/motor assembly in (lucky me, having a car almost complete usable for spares that no-one wanted to buy :D), but it seems mighty odd that the pump is working, but only to that point.

    Anyone got any other wisdom?**

You say you have a complete car for spares hmmm…..... Any thoughts on selling me a front wing and front bumper? (you gotta be cheeky sometimes :P)

  • **He needs pretty much all of his body for… well, let's just say he's going to look like an MX-3, but not have an awful lot of MX-3 left...

In fact just the body and glass.**

Hmm, I'm thinking there's gonna be a new engine in there at some point? Not from an MX3?

  • **whistles

Moving on. I've just swapped the assemblies over and Marvin's pushes it a bit further but it still doesn't make it up C-pillar…

    (expletive)

Edit: I think some hot bicycle pump-on-washer pipe action is in my near future.**

I'll have to come have a gander sometime Mr.F, sounds intriguing and we'll have to sort out some kind of photoshoot  (don't worry about any marks, scuffs or peeling paint- mine has a few knocks and bruises too).

Just as a thought, have you checked the motors? My rear washer seems to work fine (when the washer jet isn't hanging off-need to get it stuck down properly!).

My only other thought is getting more powerful motors somehow…. :?

  • **%^$#!

So, I've taken apart the interior and the rear washer system and tested the lot - at least the bits I could get to. The washer bottle is fine, the pump is fine, the long pipe is fine and the jet itself is not blocked.

This leaves, as I can tell, the connecting pipe between the clear one and the nozzle. And I don't think I can get to it without removing the boot itself…

    Any thoughts/tips/tricks?**

  • You wont believe it mines decided to stop working this morning, bottle was half full so topped it up and now nothing, no fuses blown all pipes clear nozzle clear but nowt..cant even hear the pump working now..

    FUBAR….

  • **

    Perhaps we've found a new MX-3 weak spot :D**

  • ive had the system blown through and its clear the pump works when disconnected and put on a seperate supply and tested, no blown fuses so now im stumped..

    gremlins lol…or Fubar

  • **Well, I've taken apart the whole thing now, nozzle to pump… I've blown through each part then tested it when attached to the pump but not the car and every bit is clear - and it all now works!

So, there was probably a blockage in one of the last two pieces - the final 2" rubber tube or the jet itself - which has now been cleared at last.

Couple of pointers. All the clips will snap taking it apart, so none of the bits are flush any more and you will not be able to relocate the last piece of tube through the hole it is supposed to go through so wrap a piece of string around it and drop it through the hole first, and pull it through once it's in.**
