EGR valves

  • Does the mx3 v6 have an egr valve fitted ?

Ive been looking through the emmision spec and cant seem to find if it has one or not….

  • Yea fraid so. There's a pipe comes off the rear header, goes to the egr (attached to rear of block/head) then EGR to intake manifold. It was strictly prohibited from my ZE :D

  • I too removed the egr, easy really just un plug and undo the pipe work. You may need to re-route a water pipe but very easy to do.

  • bump
can someone please to a how to on this ..

    whats needs to be removed
what needs to be blanked off
what needs to be re-routed etc and HOW>>>>

oh and just for infornation reason what purpose does it serve, ok i know it recycles the exhaust gases but why does it need to..

  • I believe its because the emissions tests in japan are so strict that this needs to be done to filter out some of the gases before they are released from the exhaust

Soz I can't help with the removal cos I've never done it! Sure an expert will be along shortly. I'd also be interested in getting shot of the EGR.

The puropse of the EGR is to reduce the NOx (Nitrogen oxide) emissions. It does this by letting some exhaust gas back into the intake to reduce the amount of oxygen available and to reduce combustion temps. This stops Nitrogen reacting with the oxygen and creating Nitrogen oxide. Probelem with NOx is, when it get's released into the atmosphere from the exhaust, it reacts with the air again creating Nitrogen Dioxide which causes smog.
You remember back in olden times when places like London were always foggy due to smog, I don't but I've heard abouot it

Thing with the EGR is it's only active under normal driving conditions, when at idle or under full load (accelerating) it shuts off.

NOx emissions are not tested either come MOT time, all they test for are CO2 and Hydro carbon emissions so we can get away with removing the EGR. Main problem with the EGR is it stuffs up our intakes and cylinders with soot so it's better to get rid and have a clean engine!

  • Thanks for the input Mikey, id love to remove mine but i dont know how and what needs blanking off or re-routing either…

    Anyone please...

me too before and after pis would help if possible

  • mines removed, being a KLZE. Your welcome to look at japfest, other than that im no help lol!.
There is a page on mx-3.com from there online manuals i think which has a diagram of the egr system. Think removing it will throw out a code from the ecu tho.

  • hey guys, decided to remove egr canister that was sitting in engine bay not doing much after it was removed when ze was dropped in. One end of the canister tube was just flapping in the engine bay so it was definately not in use. Only trouble is that one of the small vaccum tubes that connects from the egr solonoid to the throttle bodie was still connected. I removed the solonoid and its definately not open so would have just caused a plug on the end of the pipe. No that ive removed the canister and solonoid is it just ok to plug the pipe? The engine seemed to idle ok with the pipe blocked or not, but there is a definate vaccum there.

this is the pipe in the centre of this picture there is a small tube going off to the left, this went to the egr solonoid.

  • Block it for sure! It's just a vacuum port now.

  • yes just block it
