Ford cougar?

  • Do they run a KLZE engine or am I going mad?

  • i heard they have a 2.5 v6…but then again mondeos have v6's

    hmmmm

  • No they run the ford Duratec engine, a bored out version of the mazda MZR engine that replaced the KL engines they are used in the mazda 3, 6 + cx-7

  • No they run the ford Duratec engine, a bored out 170hp version of the mazda MZR engine that replaced the KL engines they are used in the mazda 3, 6 + cx-7

  • BUT…....................

If you look at the ford 3.5 V6 that was created in 1996 and used the noble with a pair of turbos on it, they do scarily have the same layout as the KLZE

So who is going to be the first to stick a noble engine in their MX

THIS IS AN ACTUAL NOBLE ENGINE

  • Okies. Just a complete car has come up for peanuts by me and thought if it were a KLZE someone on here may be interested.

Nevermind! Nice one on the quick replys! :)

  • oooohhhhh i just wet myself

**That's a 3.0 in a Mercury Sable. It's also used in the Jaguar S-Type/X-Type, various Mazdas (as the AJ or MZI), the Mondeo ST220 (had one of those) and the Nobles, as you say, with a pair of turbos strapped to them (M10 had a 2.5, M12 used the 3.0).

The 3.0 Duratec engine is a bored out version of the 2.5 Duratec they started using in 1994 in the Cougar and Mondeo ST24 and was based on the knowledge they gleaned from their experience using the Mazda K-series - so it's not too much of a shock that they look similar. They are different engines, however and 2,544cc compared to 2,497. I don't believe the mounts are the same either - the equivalent Mondeo to the Probe didn't use a V6 at any point, and it wasn't until the Cougar's Mondeo came out that the 2.5 found a home in the Mondeo (as, I recall, the Ghia X, ST24 and, later, ST200).

Edit: Apparently, the Mk1 Mondeo did get a V6, just not in the UK.

Also, the Cougar is a pup. Avoid.**

  • djmarcopolo could you please resize you first pic please… as my fooking laptop screen aint 2 foot wide...a gentle 640x480 will do just nicely ta...

  • All the Ford V6 Duratech engines are Jaguar engines originally developed by BMW when they owned Jag. When Ford bought out Jag they also had the rights to it so started using them instead of the KL's in Fords, Jag & Mazda's

They are very similar to our K series. I do know both the blocks to the Mazda KL and the Jag V6's were both developed by Porsche so they are very similar. Main differences between the 2 are the Ford/Jag engines have cam chains instead of cam belts like our K's. Obviously there are others but that's the biggie!

My Father-in-law has a 2.5 X type which I get to work on every so often. It is basicly a Mondeo underneath and the amount of Ford badges every where is unbelivable for a Jag! They're on every casting or casing. It also has VRIS too so that is freshly robbed from Mazda!

Also the Cougar is basicly a Mondea coupe, same floor pan, engines & Suspension.
