What power?

  • Can someone plz tell me what i should run with the state on my mx3. I have a mx6 klde engine with kl05 ecu and klo2 vaf, klde injectors, k8 inlet manifold and throttle body, k8 gearbox and flywheel. (1/4 mile, 0-60 and topend and horsepower) thanyou.

  • Topend if you have JDM ecu is 118mph, you prob got bout 160 bhp. The k8 throttle body and inlet are prob a bit restrictive.

0-60 all depend on driver condition est.. 7.5-8.5 seconds.
    Not sure on 1/4.

  • you shouldn't have a limiter on it since it's a KL-DE but since you've kept the K8 gearbox you should be possibly looking at a slightly quicker 0-60 since the k8 gears are shorter than the KL (5th gear is definately so I assume they will all be slightly shorter). Due to this, the top end will be lower than the MX-6 and fuel consumption will be slightly higher too. (but then again, who puts a bigger engine in and then expects the same economy?)

  • So you have the MX6 engine with the MX3 running gear? With 160 BHP and the shorter gears in comparison to the MX6 you will be running under 7.5 seconds for the 0-60. I suggest you get a mate with a stop watch so you can get an estimate to find out.

  • only fith is difrent all other geear are exatly the same

  • Sorry but no- I could get you the ratios if you like. I had the MX6 box and the gears are all taller.

  • yea IIRC it's the final gear that is different affecting all gears, but 5th might also be taller.

  • Correct so final drive effects all the ratios, 5th is taller and therefore raises top speed to 136 mph by my memory.

Like I said I had this mod and my car was slower from 0-60 but better mpg due to cruising at 70 mph on 3250 rpm instead of 3750 rpm. If I did this mod again I'd see about having the gears as standard MX3 and the taller 5th from the MX6 only. Don't know if it's an easy thing due to the final drive but would be the best of both worlds as you only need those first two ratios to get the zip to 60 mph- after that it's not that important, well for me anyways.

  • its 156 top speed on the mx6 gear box. but wot most ppl do is just put the 5th gear from the mx6 in the mx3 box.

Eh? 156? On youtube there are some vids of this but one of them shows it with that speed yet the rpm looks at only somewhere around 5ooo rpm. I'm not sayin it's bogus as the other vid clearly shows that speed of around 150 mph and the revs match. Just always understood it was 138mph from stuff on the MX3.com. But I've seen a vid showing it so I have to say it looks like it's correct, dunno if the cars modded though.

I had the standard 'box and took it to the max of 128-130 mph at roughly 7000 rpm. Was looking mostly at the road so I didnt crash. Never took the MX6 swapped box that far but the MX6 has a listed top speed of a 138mph. The J spec : 141 mph. Obviously you can go past the redline to 7800 but not wise at that speed. I have been told that the standard MX3 V6 is a bit quicker than the listed 0-60 of 8.5 sec , more like 7.9. The reason having to do with insurance brackets and wanting to keep it as low as possible.

If it's possible just to swap out 5th then thats a great mod. Coupled with the KLDE it is a rocket! I'd say 0-60 just under 6 seconds, maybe less, comparing it to the j spec MX6 doing it in 6.2 which is heavier and has the taller gears.

  • Are we going to get into who can go the fastest in their mx again?!

There was a post not long ago about this, robbie gota little bit more then std

    Check this:

Oh, and of course all this speed testing was done on our private roads…......

  • so my 0 to 60 time will be about 7ish maybe a bit quicker? do you think the 1.8 manifold and throttle body will reduce the power much?

Probably quite a bit if you have the K8 inlet you are probably using K8 injectors so thats gonna be an issue. Also the inlet is noticeably smaller than the DE.

Help it breath get a DE inlet… :D

  • malania inlet all the way nothing to move then as it fits nicly

I'm not convinced by this to be honest mate. j-spec 6 is a fraction under 200bhp. Whereas the standard KL-DE is 167. Considering you're using k8 injectors & im I would expect you to be about on par with the uk spec 6.

Sorry if I have disappointed you!

  • Fairnuff, your opinion, im not disappointed. The MX3 is lighter , 1171 kg versus 1289kg and shorter ratios but even if not under six then it's still pretty quick. The KLDE with addition of an extra 35 horses and losing 120kgs adds up to a pretty quick car, certainly low 6's, maybe better. As I said previously the standard MX3 0-60 is more like 8 secs. This is bourne out by celica club members who have taken them on. Celica GT has 0-60 of 7.9 secs. One member has a brother with a MX3 and says it keeps up with his no problem.

With j spec 200bhp on tap it would surely be under six seconds. Anyone got these mods and done times?

  • im just going from the mx-3.com forums but 156 apparently is the top speed of the mx6 transmission but to be fair this is hitting the rev limiter but 150 should be no problem for a klze with the mx6 transmission but if u think this is incorrect u can always search the mx-3.com forums and ask ppl there thats wot i do when im unsure about stuff anyway. i have about 5-10 usa mx-3 klze owners i talk to on msn for information and advice and since the us has bin doing the swap long b4 ppl in the uk even knew about it i tend to value there opinion just as much if not more than advice giving to me from the uk forums.
though i think its good to get as much information as possible and make up your own mind after all its your engine/car and no one elses.

Sounds about right my K8 was bout 8, now with KLZE under 6.. Goes ok, not far of my scooby when that was standard.

As for top only had 140, had more to go but ran out of track..

  • iam using the 2.5 injectors off the kl engine.

  • want to find out its true power? get it on a rolling road, see if there is a motor mechanics college near you they should have one and will do it for free
